Alicia Machado will appear on this month (February) edition of Playboy Mexico. She is Miss Universe 1996 from Venezuela.
She signed the contract with Playboy in November 09, 2005. The 1996 Miss Universe has dedicated her being photographed by Donald Trump who called her an “eating machine” when she gained weight after winning the beauty pageant.
In all, Venezuelan women have won four Miss Universe pageants and five Miss World crowns. Beauty queens are selected not only in national pageants but in each elementary school classroom for “Carnival Queen,” for sporting teams, private clubs, professional associations, neighborhood, city and state fairs and festivals and even in women’s prison!
The culture of beauty, however, does not stop at the beauty pageants but pervades society, as the New York Times reported in an article entitled “Vanity, what is your name? Venezuela.” According to one study cited in the article, 65 percent of Venezuelan women and 47 percent of me admitted they think about their looks “all the time” (as opposed to 27% and 17% for American women & men). One businessman said that two of his maids had already had plastic surgery and a third was saving up money for an operation. This is in a country where 80% of the people live beneath the poverty line! Others cited in the article disputed this reputation, however, including one who claimed that “We’re not vain here so much as we are lovers of beauty.”
