Singapore-born violinist Vanessa-Mae Nicholson has been ranked as the wealthiest richest young entertainer in the UK according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List 2006 published on Sunday. The 27-year-old musician, who became a household name with her electric violin, with her wealth estimated at £32 million has put her 10th-equal in the top 100 richest young people born or living in the UK under the age of 30.
The Singapore-born violinist released her first classical-fused-contemporary album The Violin Player over ten years ago and has since gone on to achieve phenomenal global success. Vanessa-Mae is said to be worth £2 million more than second-richest Kiera Chaplin, granddaughter of Oona Chaplin, the fourth wife of legendary Charlie Chaplin.
Last year’s number one spot in the young entertainer section was held by former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, but the girl they called Posh is now too old for the category. Actor Hollywood favourites Orlando Bloom, who held last year’s number two spot, has fallen to eighth-equal place.
In second place among the wealthiest young entertainers is another new entry, Charlie Chaplin’s 23-year-old granddaughter Kiera. Ms Chaplin has a 30% stake in Hollywood production company Limelight Films. She is also president of the company behind the website webforjetset.com, aimed at helping the super-rich source the must-have helicopter and Ferrari, or finding a reliable bodyguard.
Sharing third on the new list with estimated fortunes of £25 million are the lads from massive music band Coldplay - Guy Berryman, the bassist, Jon Buckland, lead guitar, Will Champion, drums, and lead singer Chris Martin.
Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has seen his wealth more than double over the past year with the success of the popular family films.
The 18th annual Sunday Times Rich List profiles the 1,000 richest people and families in the UK. It comes to its figures based on a person’s identifiable wealth, including land, property, other assets such as art and racehorses, or significant shares in publicly quoted companies.
