The gay-lesbian marriage issue has sparked a civil rights debate in Massachusetts, the only U.S. state where gays and lesbians can legally wed, after a teacher read the story to a classroom of seven year olds without warning parents first. The parents’ rights group said on Monday that they may sue the public school in the affluent suburb of Lexington, about 12 miles west of Boston, where a teacher used the book “King & King” in a lesson about different types of weddings.
Brian Camenker, president of the Parents Rights Coalition, a conservative Massachusetts-based advocacy group, said, “It’s just so heinous and objectionable that they would do this.” He believes the school, Joseph Estabrook Elementary, broke a 1996 Massachusetts law requiring schools to notify parents of sex-education lessons. Scientist now believe that a powerful antioxidant called ECG (from a chemical family known as catechins) in green tea helps explain the “Japanese Paradox” in the same way resveratrol accounts for the “French Paradox.” In a resent study, researchers from the University of Kansas determined that ECG in green tea is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may help explain why the rate of hearth disease among Japanese men is quite low compared to their U.S. counterparts, despite the fact that approximately 75 percent of Japanese men smoke cigarettes.
People living in Asian countries have enjoyed the health benefits of drinking green tea and related teas, such as oolong, for over 4,000 years. Regrettably, many Americans rarely drink tea with regularity and therefore miss out on the anti-aging properties of this miraculous beverage.

Scientists have been studying the impact of dietary fats on the risk of developing cardiovascular disease since the outset of two famous research studies: the Seven Countries Study and the Framingham Study, both begun in the 1950s. With the identification of dietary fats – especially saturated fats and cholesterol from animal products such as meats and full-fat dairy products – as the primary culprits in the elevation of serum cholesterol, the outcome was to create a public health recommendation to reduce the amount of total fat in the diet. As decades passed and research progressed, it became clear that all fats are not created equal.
There is no question that lowering total fats, and saturated fat in particular, lowers blood cholesterol levels. Read more of Good Fats vs Bad Fats (Diet Series II)
