Danielle Evans, a 20-year-old baby sitter from Little Rock, Arkansas, has won and crowned the title of “America’s Next Top Model” during last night’s finale of the sixth cycle of the popular UPN “dramality” series. Evans, 20, had a rough season — including a fall that left on her crutches with a sprained toe and a hospitalization for dehydration — The New York Post reported Thursday.
Before beating out finalists Jade and Joanie, according to People magazine???s Web site, People.com, the Little Rock native endured hospitalization (for dehydration and exhaustion brought on by a 22-hour flight to Thailand, site of the show???s final four episodes) and elective oral surgery (to close the gap between her front teeth).
“Oh my, thank you so much,” a tearful Danielle sobbed after Tyra revealed her victory. “I am the winner of America’s Next Top Model, my life has officially changed,” she later gushed. “My mother’s going to be so happy right now… right now it kinda doesn’t seem real to me because I’ve had so many struggles and I’ve had a hard knock life… we don’t have to struggle anymore. I’m a CoverGirl Mommy!”
As the show’s winner, Danielle will have the opportunity to be managed by Ford Models, a $100,000 contract with cosmetics giant CoverGirl, and additionally appear in fashion spread in Elle magazine. The model plans to move to New York or Los Angeles. And, according to People, ???I???m going to get Mama a car.???
The three remaining girls participated in a national television commercial and photo shoot for CoverGirl’s Lash Exact Mascara. While all three girls struggled memorizing their lines, Jade had the most difficulty. Even after Jay Manuel brought out cue cards to help her, she still continued to miss her lines.
During the final elimination, the judges considered the runway performances from the final runway challenge, as well as each girl’s photos throughout the competition. While the judges agreed that Joanie had many versatile looks, they felt that Danielle had the ‘signature look’ idealistic of a top model. ‘This has been such a long journey that will soon come to an end, but for one of you, it’s just the beginning,’ Tyra said before announcing Danielle as America’s Next Top Model.
As they deliberated, the judges agreed that the two represented the show’s strongest finalist pair ever. “This is the toughest one we’ve ever had, I don’t think the [final two] girls’ portfolios have ever looked this good at this stage before,” judge Nigel Barker remarked. “I agree,” responded Tyra Banks.
Meanwhile, the father of ???America???s Next Top Model??? runner-up Joanie Dodds said the reality show played up the fact she is a minister???s daughter. Pastor of the Ridgeway First Church of God, Dodd said members of his Park Avenue East congregation watched the show that began taping in September. He said Joanie lives near Pittsburgh, where she has done most of her modeling. About one semester shy of graduating, she began modeling while she was a student at Findlay University. Her boyfriend???s brother spotted information about the UPN show and, Dodds said, ???The rest is history.???
