Soul singer Taylor Hicks finally won the 2006 “American Idol” contest on Wednesday, beating ballad singer Katharine McPhee in votes cast by millions of viewers in the fifth edition of America’s top-rated TV show. Hicks, 29, whose prematurely graying hair and manic dancing has made him been a consistent favorite among the show’s 30 million regular viewers, won a coveted recording contract and will release a single called “Do I Make You Proud.”
“Thank You America! I’m living the American Dream,” screamed Hicks as he sang out the show.

Angelina Jolie will be a mom by June 3. The actress and partner Brad Pitt have flown their obstetrician/gynecologist to Namibia’s Burning Shore resort where the couple are preparing for labor. And, according to Life & Style, the medic will induce labor at the beginning of next month unless due Jolie delivers naturally before then.
A local Namibian doctor, who examined Jolie earlier this week, tells Life & Style, “She’s in great physical and mental shape. I don’t think there’s going to be a problem with the baby or the mother.”

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has named her baby Bluebell Madonna. The singer also known as Ginger Spice, 33, told Hello! magazine she’d been inspired by seeing the spring flowers during her pregnancy. Halliwell’s mother had also informed her that the bluebell was growing rare, and as something “precious” it seemed appropriate as a baby’s name, she said.

Halliwell said she had chosen the middle name in honor of one of her heroines. “As she came out of my tummy, Bluebell had both arms flung wide in the air as if announcing to the world, `Hi! I’m here!’” the magazine quoted Halliwell as saying.
