Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie once had a good TV thing going. But, like their real-life friendship, which is kaput, so, too, is their television show. Paris Hilton seems to have buried the hatchet with former best friend Nicole Richie.
The two stars, who appeared together in popular reality TV show ‘The Simple Life’, have been feuding for months after Nicole reportedly showed Paris’ infamous sex tape, ‘One Night In Paris’, to friends at a party.
Based on a preview of the first episode of “The Simple Life — ‘Til Death Do Us Part,” the executives at Fox come off like Einstein for passing on this junk. Yet, that says little for the folks at E! Entertainment, who figured there was still life left in “The Simple Life.”
The subtitle “‘Til Death Do Us Part” alludes to the celebutantes’ infiltrating families for crash courses in marriage and motherhood.
The first episode, which wasn’t supplied for review, finds Paris and Nicole (separately) taking the place of a nine-months-pregnant woman, wearing a suit to duplicate her condition, cleaning house and babysitting a 3-year-old. The second episode, which was provided, has them infiltrating a traditional Pakistani-American family to trivialize their religion, ruin their kitchen and corrupt their very Americanized teenage son. It’s all very contrived but harmless and less offensive than stultifyingly superficial. But then, that pretty much always has been “The Simple Life.”
The series, launching at 9 p.m. Sunday on E!, is a dreadful mess so devoid of any of the fun stuff that made the pairing of two rich girls engaging, when it aired on Fox in 2003, that it’s not worth watching — ever. Those hoping that the new season of “The Simple Life” - which shows how inept the two celebutantes can be in everyday situations, returns Sunday, 10 p.m. EDT on E! - will supply the answer to what’s really behind the famous Paris Hilton-Nicole Richie feud are going to be disappointed - but the former friends do toss a few dishy darts at one another.
Hilton characterizes the two as “complete opposites.” “I’m the nice one, she’s the evil one,” the baby-voiced blonde says. “Some people change when they think they’re a star or something and some people stay the same. I’ve always been the same and she’s definitely not.”
It seems Paris has now had a change of heart towards her one-time pal, and has wished Nicole, who recently confessed to suffering from an eating disorder, all the happiness in the future.
She said: “I hope that Nicole is happy and healthy and having a good life.”
But despite her kind words, Paris has praised her new best friend, Rod Stewart’s daughter Kimberly, and admits she even has a slight crush on her. She told Britain’s Top of the Pops magazine: “Kimberly is hysterical. She’s six feet tall, blonde, beautiful and has luscious blue eyes. She’s hot. I feel so comfortable with her and I can just act like myself.”
