POP princess Kylie Minogue will give her first Australian TV interview ??? on Channel 9 ??? since being diagnosed with cancer and Australian news network, Nine, has secured exclusive rights to screen this Kylie Minogue’s first TV interview. Instead the interview will be done in the UK by British model and MTV host Cat Deeley.
The press respected the star’s request for privacy and kept its distance, allowing her to deal with the shock of her illness and get better. Kylie remained out of the public eye until recent weeks, when she was seen out in public, brimming like the old days and sporting her short, sexy cropped hair.
In ‘Kylie: The Interview’, the diminutive singer, 38, will talk about her treatment and recovery, her experiences and struggle to return to full health since the cancer diagnosis was made in May 2005 during her ‘Showgirls’ tour. Minogue revealed that she had cancer last May before having surgery in Australia two days later. She postponed the tour and cancelled a headlining appearance at the Glastonbury Festival as a result.
Sky One’s director of programming, Richard Woolfe, said: “Kylie is one of the UK’s biggest and best-loved artists. Ever since she made her UK debut in Neighbours some 20 years ago, she has found a place in the nation’s heart. The news of her diagnosis sent shockwaves across the world.”
“Kylie is not only an Australian icon but a woman who has experienced enormous hardship over the last year,” said Michael Healy, Nine’s director of programming. “Her story is one that many Australians relate to.”
The former soap star, who rose to musical fame in the late 1980s with such songs as ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ and ‘The Locomotion’, looks back too, to her days in the Aussie series ‘Neighbours’.
She will also publish a semi-autobiographical children’s book, The Showgirl Princess, later this year.
She’s beating cancer, recording a new album and even planning a comeback tour. But what Kylie now wants most is a family ??? even though doctors have warned her it could be her biggest challenge yet.
