Known as the America???s most highly paid supermodels, supermodel-turned-TV presenter, Tyra Banks knows ecactly which part of her beauty body to shape on camera and she will become the first beauty to ask editors not to digitally enhance her appearance when she appears on magazine covers. The 32-year-old supermodel is fed up with the message being sent out to young girls when they see her revels in the art of falling out of bed and looking gorgeous, but the green-eyed beauty is drawing a line at one glamour faked trick photograph. Instead, Banks will use make-up and hair extensions to achieve beautiful looks.
Tyra Banks Banks will ask the magazines not to ???touch up??? her image by removing surplus pounds, bags under the eyes or cellulite with computer trickery. She announce her stand on her US television chat show next month, say her business advisers, after a year of testing the water by showing herself ???bags and all???.
A former executive at Elite Modelling, which employed both Banks and her long-term rival Naomi Campbell said, ???Everyone in the business knows how common retouching is, but now Tyra has let the cat out of the bag in public I bet consumers will no longer tolerate such fakery.???
???They will feel insulted,??? she added. ???And anyway, looking natural is in.???
Critics suggest this is easy for Banks with her gave up full-time modelling last year. But she still has to pose for photographs to promote the five American television programmes she will either present or produce this year.
Bankable Productions, says, “Modeling is an unreal business, but Tyra wants to make it more real. “She always tried to get heavier women to take part in America’s Next Top Model – although the industry continues to reject them and the few that get through are magically transformed into waifs by magazines.”
Banks’ career took off when she made the move from high-fashion to a commercial market and become the first African-American to be featured on the covers of GQ, Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue, most famous for her work as a Victoria’s Secret model. When waif fashion models were in prominence, Banks stood out with a more voluptuous physique at 5ft 9in tall and reported measurements of 34??-23??-35??, she had to work hard to persuade fashion designers that her physique was well-suited to the catwalk and ultimately walked for the best haute couture designers all over the world.
Banks addressed her physique in an interview with The Sun, saying, “I am totally against plastic surgery. A lot of people think I have breast implants because I have the biggest boobs in the business. But I was a 34C when I was 17??? They stay up when I wear a push-up bra. But if people could see me when I come home and take off my bra, how could they think these are fake?” She is known for being openly proud of her body, once commenting, “Some models are quite flat-chested so they can run around without bouncing. I can’t, black women don’t have the same body image problems as white women. They are proud of their bodies. Black men love big butts.”
She has already used her show to contrast photographs in glamour magazines with the originals, demonstrating how editors had trimmed ???inches and pounds??? off her waist and thighs. ???At first I found it funny, and then I realised it was a lie,??? she said. She will announce that she will depend instead on make-up and hair extensions. ???New pictures of me should be me,??? she has told staff at her company, Bankable Productions.
