Earlier this year Natalie Portman took off her hair in V for Vendetta, for her next movie she’s taking off her clothes. The stunning actress will be seen completely naked during torture scenes in the upcoming historical drama Goya’s Ghosts, which focuses on revered artist Francisco Goya. The film is a historical drama which focuses on the revered artist Francisco Goya. Portman plays the artist’s muse, who becomes wrapped up in a controversy after being accused of being a heretic by a Monk. Portman will appear nude during the movie’s torture scenes.
How this leads to totally naked torture is anyone’s guess, but apparently that’s a pivotal scene in the film.
It is not the first time Portman has stripped off for a movie role as previously exposed her body in the complex romantic drama ‘Closer’, which also starred Jude Law, Julia Roberts and Clive Owen, but the explicit scenes were eventually cut.
So what’s interesting about this, besides the obvious skin implications, is that the last time Natalie filmed nude scenes for a movie she changed her mind at the last minute and lobbied successfully for the director to have them cut. Closer, a movie in which she played a stripper who inexplicably never stripped anything off. But later asked Nichols to remove the scenes. Nichols agreed, and the scenes have never seen the light of day.
Before Portman changed her mind, she seemed very comfortable with the idea of her nude image finding it’s way onto the internet:
“Yeah, it’ll be nude celebrities dotcom. But that’s fine. I’m not scared. I’m brave,” said Portman. “I feel like I’ve got to a point in my life where everything I do is active rather than reactive.”
Although the role won her universal acclaim, the actress admits she found it disturbing that some men lusted after her – even though she was a child. Portman shot to fame aged just 12 playing a young Lolita-esque orphan who befriends a hardened assassin in the critically acclaimed 1994 movie.
She said: “I had a bad experience when `Leon` first came out. “In hindsight, I`m really proud of that film, though at the time it was unnerving to find myself suddenly being looked at.”
Portman will star along side Javier Bardem (the Monk), Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd (Francisco Goya), and Randy Quaid. Two-time Academy Award winning director Milos Forman is helmed the film. Forman’s filmography includes One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Amadeus, The People vs. Larry Flynt and Man on the Moon.
No release date has yet been announced, but the movie is in post production. Hope the film could hit theaters late this year, just in time for oscar season.
