After being adorned with the Mikimoto crown that consists of 318 diamonds and 141 pearls, Katie Blair, the 18-year-old beauty from Montana, had a hard time verbalizing her emotions, words cannot describe it, it’s more than I ever expected it to be.â€
During one of the year’s most exciting live television events, a star-studded panel of judges chose Katie Blair, Miss Montana Teen USA, as Miss Teen USA 2006. Katie Blair beat the competition in swimsuit, evening gown and interview categories to claim the crown Tuesday night. The star studded panel of judges at the Palm Springs Convention Center awarded Blair with the $100,000 crown after the first runner-up, Melissa Lingafelt of North Carolina, was announced.
First runner-up was Melissa Lingafelt of North Carolina and second runner-up was Katie Marie Cooper of North Dakota. Samantha Casey of Virginia was the third runner-up, while Brittany Sharp of Georgia placed fourth.
Katie Blair expressed, “I want to further my career in the fashion industry and continue to do work with disabled children.†As a result of her new title Blair’s winnings include a year of living in Trump Tower, a scholarship to New York School of Film and Television, a year of living in Trump Tower, a wardrobe and a Mikimoto tiara. The new Miss Teen USA has ties to Wisconsin!
Eighteen-year-old Katie Blair represented Montana in the pageant. But her grandparents live in Fox Point.
“I think it’s fabulous that she won, competed well and had the confidence to do this,” aunt Leslie Blair told the Billings Gazette in Montana.
Blair was her high school’s prom queen this year and voted “most likely to star in a sitcom” by her classmates, according to the Miss Teen USA’s Web site. She plans to pursue degrees in advertising, marketing and fashion design.
The evening gown competition was only one portion of the evening’s event. The contestants also modeled swimsuits and answered questions from judges including TV personality Melissa Rivers.
Miss Georgia Brittany Sharp, 15, was asked about contributions made by teens, and Lingafelt was asked about raising the driving age. Miss Virginia Samantha Casey, 17, was asked what song best describes her. “They have worked their whole lives to get to this point,” Rivers said afterward. “They are all adorable, all overachievers.”
Allie LaForce, Miss Teen USA 2005, crowned her successor at the conclusion of this two-hour primetime telecast, before an estimated worldwide viewing audience of more than 250 million.
