While the cooler days of autumn may be a welcome change from summer sun and heat, the season is the start of skin’s disaster time. The colder weather and drying winds can sap the moisture from your skin, so try these five easy tips to help keep it healthy and wellnourished during the winter season.
1. Exfoliate Regularly
Your skin will be smoother if you slough off any dead flaky skin cells clinging to the surface once a week.
2. Mega-moist
Swap your foaming facial cleanser for a creamier milk product and your light moisturising lotion for a thicker cream.
And don’t forget the rest of your body! It needs moisture more than ever at this time of year. For even application, coat yourself from head to toe in moisturiser after a shower, when body heat will help soak up moisture.
3. Wear sunscreen
We have higher UV readings in the Australian winter than Europe does in summer, so don’t skip this just because it’s cool.
4. Put up a barrier
Keep your hand cream and lip balm within reach – regular application will create a barrier against harsh winter winds and chills and prevent hands and lips drying out.
5. Drink lots of water
People often forget to drink water in winter because thirst and dehydration are usually associated with summer heat, but cold winter winds can be very dehydrating. To keep your skin polished, clear and healthy throughout the chilly season, hydrate from the inside out by drinking about two litres of water a day.
