Eyelash Transplant Surgery Becames Popular

Eyelash Transplant Surgery imageHave you seen some eyelash transplant surgery crazy things on Dr. 90210? Just like “plug and sew” cosmetic surgery for balding men in the hair loss industry, more and more women around the world use the same techniques to gain long, sweeping lashes to make eyes looks younger (in 20 minutes, two weeks, one month). Eyelash transplant surgery is gaining popularity as the new must-have procedure for women and sometimes even men, convinced that beauty is not so much in the eye of the beholder as in front of the eye itself.
Dr. Alan Bauman, a leading proponent of eyelash transplants, said, “Longer, thicker lashes are an ubiquitous sign of beauty. Eyelash transplantation does for the eyes what breast augmentation does for the figure.”

For many women, eyelash surgery is simply an extra item on the vast nip tuck menu that has lost its old taboos. Eyebrows and eyelashes can be lost in different ways: trauma: accident, burns, diseases and medical treatments, congenital defects like genetics, self inflicted plucking and cancer treatment like radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgical removal of a tumour.
Under the procedure, a small incision is made at the back of the scalp to remove 30 or 40 hair follicles which are carefully sewn one by one onto the patient’s eyelids. Only light sedation and local anesthetics are used and the cost is around $3,000 an eye. “This is a brand new procedure for the general public (and) it is going to explode,” Bauman added to Reuters during what was billed as the world’s first live eyelash surgery workshop for about 40 surgeons from around the world. The surgery requires only light sedation and local anesthetics. Unfortunately, the cost of beauty is not cheap and the transplant surgery costs up to $3,000 per eyelid.

Once your implants are in place, you have to trim them regularly to avoid unattractively-long lashes. Human ‘head hair’ grows faster than the original eyelashes, so to achieve the luscious lids without looking scary, you have to keep the length under control. The density also varies with gender, as females often have an increased number of eyelashes than men.
The technique was first pioneered for victims of burns or congenital malformations of the eye. Now, 80 percent are done for cosmetic reasons. Both eyelash and eyebrow transplant surgeries yield very positive results, with patients experiencing few complications. Bleeding is minimal, there is no visible scarring or tufting, and overall the results appear quite natural.
