British beauty and actress Kate Winslet has slammed the rising trend for super skinny models and actresses. The straightforward star of The Holiday is famous for her curves. And she has no desire to join their ranks as she finds the size zero thing ‘unbelievably disturbing’. She finds the glamorization of ultra-skinny models and actresses disturbing and says she keeps magazines featuring such women away from her 6-year-old daughter. “It’s only a matter of time before she becomes aware of it, and it frightens the life out of me,” Winslet said of her daughter, Mia.
The 31-year-old star of Titanic said: “I don???t want to be a finger pointer…but young girls are very impressionable.”
Kate’s worries about the US size zero trend (which is equivalent to a UK size four) is such that she is taking active steps to keep images of famous skinnies such as Nicole Richie away from her six-year-old daughter Mia.

Kate was speaking as both a lady of normal proportions and a mother. As Kate pointed out, “I’ve got a lovely husband and children and I didn’t lose weight to find those things, and those things are what should be important.” Her comments come as the controversy grows over the use of super-thin models in the fashion world, which has recently seen two young women in the industry die from weight-related illness.
Stick-thin celebrities such as Nicole Richie and Victoria Beckham have been accused of being poor role models for young women and of contributing to a rise in eating disorders. A major fashion event in Madrid banned ultra-thin models from the catwalk earlier this year, and other fashion shows have indicated they plan to do the same.

Doctor Who star actress Billie Piper, who has suffered from anorexia, has told Glamour magazine the size zero debate is ???disgusting???. She said she was worried that teenagers are looking up to ???tiny??? celebrities such as Victoria Beckham. In the interview, the actress described the insidious psychological affects of the disease. “It’s mad. You’ve never been weaker but your brain is at its strongest. Your brain is talking to your body and they’re no longer working in unison.”
“Your brain is like ‘I disapprove of you today, body’. Your body is like, ‘Please feed me I’m so hungry’, and your brain is like ‘No. You’re bad’. I think everyone has it in them.”

However, Kate said she hoped that she had made a positive role model to young girls and “in some small way” done her bit to combat the size zero image.
The actress is currently promoting her festive romantic comedy, The Holiday, with other A-listers Jack Black, Cameron Diaz and fellow Brit Jude Law.
