Okay, this is an extreme example out if there’s some truth n every joke, the point here is that many people-especially men -consider a serious long-term relationship as the place where your sex life goes to die. But the committed men we interviewed tell a different story. Passionate monogamy? Here’s their definition: six simple sensual moves that worked for them, and could for you, too.

1. Go Public
If your love life needs a kick, it may be time to go to town. Take it from Ben, a 28-year-old merchant banker, and his tale of a sensual shopping spree.
Ben had become pretty bored with making love in the usual place - the bedroom he shares with his partner, Lisa. “Beds can be a huge hindrance to really good sex,” says Ben. “Take the mattress we sleep on for instance - it has a 10 year warranty, deep quilting, and an obnoxious floral pattern. It’s comfortable, but as a sexual venue, our bed had become oppressively familiar.”

Indeed, for many men, great sex is like prime real estate: the three keys to success are location, location, location. “The sex was completely dazzling,” he says. “Hushed but dazzling. Ditching the bed forced me to become creative again. After a few minutes, we were able to resurrect forgotten sexual positions at an astonishing rate. One after another, they came out of early retirement. It felt unbelievable. But better than the lack of a bed was the realisation that Lisa was capable of such bold suggestions, casual sexuality and feminine confidence. This was a bit of a revelation. When you’ve been with the same person for a number of years, you forget what that initial passionate rush is like. This definitely rejuvenated it.”

Since then, Ben boasts, their carnal knowledge has reached new heights. Literally. In the past year, they’ve had sex in hotel spas, in the back of the car like a couple of teenagers, in clean yet unlit laneways, and (folks, don’t try this at home) while hanging dozens of metres above the ground on a ski-lift chair. You don’t need me to tell you that men love silly little games - and the naughtier the better. Strip poker is a classic case in point: a game that was invented by a bloke for obvious purposes. So it should come as no surprise that Tim, a 32-year-old artist, says that one of the greatest ideas his partner, Sharon, a 30-year-old teacher, ever had was a game guaranteed to heat things up.

“Sharon and I had been together for a few years, and it is fair to say that our sex life had hit a bit of a plateau,” says Tim. “You know that point where you know each other inside out, you’ve seen each other’s bag of tricks; the whole repertoire? Well, one night when we were out having dinner at a restaurant, Sharon gave me a really mischievous grin and said she’d thought of this fantastic game she wanted to play when we got home that night. I’d seen that saucy look on her face in the past, so I knew this could only mean something good.”

Needless to say, Sharon and Tim cut their dinner short and went back to their place, where she continued to explain the rules of the game: each of them would write down instructions on little slips of paper. Very detailed instructions. Then they were to put the slips of paper in a bowl, pull them out one at a time and do whatever it said on the paper for exactly three minutes.

“I admit I had no idea what this game would be like when we started playing it- but it was absolutely amazing,” Tim says.”Each new slip of paper was like an X-rated fortune cookie -you had no idea what you were getting. We both suggested naughty ideas we might never have been comfortable proposing otherwise. And on top of it all, there was a three-minute time limit- just long enough for her to grab the prize several times, and just short enough to keep me from feeling satisfied. Finally, after about 90 minutes of this, we attacked each other like a couple of animals.”

Ultimately, Tim says, they never did work out what to call The Game - although a mere mention of it guarantees a mutual Pavlovian response. He continues: “Every now and then, one of us will turn to the other and say, ‘Do you want to play The Game tonight?’ We get these silly grins on our faces.”

3. A Dessert For Two
Some say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Others, however, say that the path lies just slightly below his belt. Regardless of whichever theory you subscribe to, why not try doubling your odds of a double seduction by following the example of James, 33, an accountant, and Alison, a 26-year-old personal assistant?

“Our sex life was nothing to complain about, but Alison has always been a bit conservative sexually,” says james. So one night I went to the fridge and thought, ‘Hmm, ice-cream’. I grabbed a few things and took them into the bedroom and told her, ‘Just lie back and trust me. It’ll be fun’. And let me tell you - it was fun.

Thus was born James’s recipe for the “Alison sexual sundae”. “We start with a towel underneath us to spare the sheets. Then I tie her to the bed with some of my old ties. Add a scoop of my favourite ice-cream to that beautiful little belly of hers and whipped cream to the appropriate places. Add sprinkles, and top it off with a cherry. We let it freeze her belly until she can’t stand it anymore. Then I munch away while she begs me to get the stuff off her. By the time the sundae’s finished, we’re both panting for the main course.”

4. Capture On Film
There’s no doubt that sex within a relationship can be great. You’re attuned to each other’s bodies, and you know what makes your partner weak at the knees. But, you have to admit, somewhere deep inside, you do miss that firsttime excitement. And getting it back is just as much fun.

Take Rebecca and Nick: together for 10 years, raising two children, and each working in the health industry in western Sydney. They admit that their sex life can become a bit neglected at times. But thanks to a bold proposition by Rebecca one evening, they now have a guaranteed fire-starter when their home fire goes out.

“It all started a few years ago when Rebecca bought me a video camera for Christmas to record our family’s finest moments,” says Nick, 33. “We’d started hiring porn videos in the hope of sparking up our sex life and while the films could be a huge turn-on, eventually they became predictable, and at times completely laughable.”

Then one day, Rebecca suggested they put their family camera to more adventurous use. “I was shocked,” admits Nick. “I’d actually been thinking the same thing but was too afraid to ask. I’d presumed Rebecca would think I was a total pervert.

“So, I set up the video on a tripod one night and we attempted to have sex. Initially, it felt ridiculous. Rebecca was worried about angles which made me laugh. It wasn’t as if we were going to release this to the public! Anyway eventually, after the first flush of self-conscious anxietv we actually started to respond. We became so engrossed in the act that we forgot the camera was running.

When we watched ourselves on screen it was incredibly sexy, and much better than anything we could rent! Often, we watch the video, get aroused, then do it again. Nick and Rebecca have only made a couple of films so far and, naturally, they’re kept locked away. “They’re for us, and only us. God help us if we ever get into a Pamela Anderson situation. It may sound funny, but for some couples, instructional sex books come in handy in times of sensual drought, as Craig and Liz, together for seven years, will attest. When Craig, a 32-year-old telesales manager and Liz, 30, a nurse, say they do everything by the book, they really mean it.

“A year ago, a friend bought me the Kamasutra, photos and all,” says Craig. “When I flicked through it, I must admit that I did find it a bit of a turn-on - all those pictures of people in unbelievable poses. I showed it to Liz that night for a laugh. When I said that you would have to be double jointed to do most poses, Liz disagreed - and she suggested we try some out.

“So, one night I asked which page she wanted to start on. Liz suggested we cut up pieces of paper with page numbers on them and throw them into a hat. She’d pick out a number and that’d be the position we had to try, no matter how difficult it looked. If some had two positions on the one page, then we’d have to do both in the same evening, no excuses. The first night we ended up doing something called ‘the crab’. A few days later it was ‘the wife of Indra’ - both highly ridiculous positions, but strangely erotic. Now, Liz’s determined for us to work our way through the book.”

The only factor that scares (yet similarly arouses) Craig is the fact that the book has more than 150 positions. This has completely changed our sex lives. Before, we’d manage to have sex maybe once a month. Now, we can’t waif to see what’s next in store. Liz is very determined, headstrong and goal-orientated, so it works for her, and that’s all that counts.”

6. Be Bad… Very Bad
So far so good, but we’ve saved the climax for the end. We’re about to reveal the one foolproof way to really stoke the fires of your sex life. Have you ever seen the final scene in the movie Grease? The bit where Olivia Newton John transforms herself from a pastel-wearing prissy type into a leather-clad hussy? This scenario is many a man’s ultimate fantasy. It’s the good girl gone bad.

Or, in the case of Dean, 29, an advertising manager, the ultimate fantasy was to see his partner, Rachel, a 30-year-old chiropractor, clad in a push-up bra and pair of garters - toting a decidedly high-voltage little friend. “About a year ago, our sex life had just about fallen apart,” says Dean. “Rachel had started her own practice and she was already a full-time teacher. Needless to say, six months of writing business plans, going to banks and being refused finance pretty much killed our sex life. We never fell out of love - we were just tired, and sex took a back seat to our work.”

Eventually Rachel’s business was up and running and she started feeling a lot more secure about her career. Then one night Dean came home from work and was met at the door by someone who at least looked like his prim partner.
“Rachel greeted me at the door in this red lace nightie with a garter belt, poured me a shot glass of vodka, stuck it in her cleavage and said, ‘Do a body shot.’ I drank the shot, she pulled me by my tie into the bedroom, unbuttoned my trousers and went right for it,” Dean says. “Then she said, ‘I went to a sex shop and got us a new toy She reached over the side of the bed and took out this vibrator with these two heads, batteries installed, all ready to go.”

For Dean, this was akin to leaving the set of Play School in the morning and coming ho me to a full-scale production of Debbie Does Dallas. “It was pleasantly surprising. I’m almost always the instigator with sex, and she’d never bought a sex toy by herself; she’s just not the type - or so I thought! It was great for both of us.”
Their sex life has never been better, and Rachel’s more confident about setting the agenda. “She’ll say, ‘I’m ready-now!’,” he says. Or she’ll pull out the vibrator and fix me with a sultry stare.”
