Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, stars of The Simple Life — which shows the tabloid-ready celebutantes thrown into everyday situations with real people —, are going to be at fat camp on the fifth season of the reality show. After last season’s format allowed the then-feuding friends to have little to do with each other, this year’s edition brings them together again.
E! Entertainment Television Inc. announced Wednesday said that “The Simple Life Goes to Camp,” set to debut in May, has Hilton and Richie working as counselors at Camp Shawnee in the mountains near Los Angeles. The camp will be host to five different specialty groups: Wellness Camp, Pageant Camp, Couples Camp, Survival Camp and Drama Camp.
The reason behind actress Nicole Richie’s constant health problems on the sets of ‘Simple Life’ is hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. She was hospitalised for dehydration earlier this month and allegedly collapsed again on the set of her reality show last week.
In October 2006, Richie revealed that she was under diagnostic treatment to find out the reason for the problem in gaining weight. But according Richie’s rep, the reality star is trying her best to cope with the problem since she got her hypoglycemia diagnosis.
A source says, “Four or five times she’s felt really faint and almost passed out and then she has to go into her trailer for a good part of the day.”
Richie has spent the last year battling reports she has an eating disorder and recently confessed she called in a therapist and a nutritionist to help her figure out why she was so thin.
Meanwhile Richie and best pal Paris Hilton will play the role of counsellors at a fat camp on the fourth season of their reality show ‘Simple Life’. According to sources, Richie and Hilton will be seen boasting around in hot pants.
“The fact that Paris and Nicole are friends again and will have to survive without their luxuries at a family run camp in the middle of nowhere takes us back full circle to the original concept that makes this show so much fun,” Lisa Berger, who oversees original programming and series development, said in a statement.
“Paris and Nicole will be advising and training girls and their moms for beauty pageants, or providing therapy for couples seeking to strengthen their relationships,” she said.
