Amanda Beard is one of the best swimmers this generation of Americans has seen, has won seven Olympic medals, the last time Beard attracted this much attention she was on the podium winning gold in Athens. And now there???s more of her to see than ever before. Amanda Beard funs are literally going berserk; Amanda Beard nude photos will be featured in the upcoming July 2007 issue of Playboy magazine. She will be featured on the cover and in a nude pictorial. When asked why she did it, Beard said it was simply a business/career decision. But was it the right one?
She???s pretty good looking, but really there???s nothing that sets her apart from any of the of the thousands of women who appear nude, or in various states of undress, in the countless men???s mags and web sites that currently exist. You know, from what I hear there are a bunch of these kinds of magazines and web sites out there.
FHM named Amanda the world’s sexiest athlete on the cover when the magazine featured her together with pro volleyball player Logan Tom, pro track stars Amy Acuff and Jenny Adams, and fellow pro swimmer Haley Cope.
Playboy magazine is expecting record sales of their July issue featuring Amanda Beard since she will be featured on the cover and in a nude pictorial. “I’ve had so many women approach me and say, “We love seeing a good, healthy body being portrayed as beauty,” she tells the AP.
As for the message she’s sending, she tells SI, “I do something if I feel comfortable doing it, and if I feel my family will get behind me on it, I couldn’t care less what other people think. I work extremely hard to get the body that I have, so I kind of want to flaunt it a little bit before it goes away.”
Of course, this isn???t the first nude celebrity to grace the pages of Playboy, nor is it the first nude female athlete. Figure skater Katarina Witt, boxer Mia St. John, volleyballer player Gabrielle Reece and high jumper Amy Acuff have all posed naked for Hugh Hefner???s magazine of sexy pictures.
Amanda Beard said she was swayed this time because the magazine allowed her to select the photographer (a woman), the photos that were used and the settings. Morgenstein declined to comment on how much Beard was paid.
“The thing I respect most about her is she’s always been willing to take the risk and let the chips fall where they may,” he said. “She’s more of a role model today because she’s willing to stand up and take the heat.” Beard is trying to position herself for a career away from the pool, and she sees the magazine spread as a way to attract nonswimming fans.
