Amanda Bynes to spritz her bubbly personality into a new collection of clothes that is hitting stores just in time for the back-to-school shopping blitz. She may share an age bracket with other young stars making news headlines, but that’s about it. The 21-year-old actress turned fashion designer, who just launched her under-$20 line, Dear, exclusively for Steve and Barry’s, is all about staying out of the gossip columns.
Bynes debuted Dear by Amanda Bynes, a new line of clothing and accessories at Steve & Barry’s, this month. She’s following on the heels of fellow fashion princess Sarah Jessica Parker, who launched her line, Bitten, at Steve & Barry’s earlier this year.
After her effervescent performance in this summer’s hit movie “Hairspray” as Penny Pingleton, the comedic actress who hails from Ventura County, Calif., has turned in another winning performance as fashion designer.
Bynes’ new collection is targeted to a young audience who is familiar with her roles as a former show host on Nickelodeon and also in films that include “She’s the Man.” The name “dear” stuck when Bynes and the creative team at Steve & Barry’s were brainstorming on what to call the new fashion line.
Bynes’ collection for fall includes a wide array of casual pants, dresses, fitted polos, jeans and accessories, including shoes, hats, bags and belts as well as jewelry. All of the items retail for $19.98 and less. Imagine a down vest for under $20!

How would you describe your line?
Fashionable, affordable and fun. (It’s targeted) at girls in school and then girls in college.
Who was your inspiration?
I definitely was inspired by my mom. My mom has a very go-getter attitude.
Do you feel any connection to Sarah Jessica Parker, who just launched her own budget-friendly line, “Bitten,” this summer?
I’ve always been a huge fan of hers, and I’m still dying to meet her. I love her clothing line. Ours are different - mine is its own vehicle, but I’d love to meet her.
