8. Make Money On Your Apartment
There are other ways of making money from your apartment. Do you have a spare car space, for example? You could rent it out to someone within the building. Alternatively, if you’re in a block where the rules allow you to rent to outsiders – although most don’t because it will compromise security – then you could rent it out to someone who works nearby and needs somewhere to park. With just one car space and their own car, it seemed impossible for Georgie and her partner to earn some much needed extra cash. Then they found a solution. Georgie always drove to work. leaving their car space empty for much of the day. They put up a notice in the foyer of the nearby offices of a big company about their space to rent from 8am-6pm each weekday. They got a renter – and their EC doesn’t mind giving strangers access to the building – so now they earn money without having to sacrifice any of their own personal comfort.
9. Create A Mail Group
Many email services, such as Yahoo and MSN, now offer free mail group facilities. One person creates a mail group and signs up anyone who’d like to be a member. It’s also a great way for residents in a block to send out queries or messages. Have someone who’s tech-friendly create a mail group and then send out an email notification to all residents and non-resident owners whose email addresses you have, and put a notice on the noticeboard, telling them about the group and asking them if they want to be members.
The Yahoo email group set up in one complex became an extremely valuable tool for residents. Notes posted included a plea for recommendations for a good removals firm, a reliable tiler and someone to fix a faulty oven, conversations about the nuisance of barbecues in the block, noise from a pump room and the temperature of the pool.
