Nicky Hilton ‘Chick’ of Fashion Week Spring 2008

Talk about fantasy fashion: “It’s Disney, princess-inspired and very fun,” the 23-year-old Nicky Hilton said of her spring Chick by Nicky Hilton collection that helped kick off Los Angeles fashion week. Nicky Hilton is an American fashion model, socialite, and fashion designer and an heiress to a part of the Hilton Hotel chain.
There was no sign of Paris but parents, Kathy and Rick Hilton were there to show their support as models took to the runway in the nautical fantasy themed designs. In attendance for Hilton’s first runway show was the 24-year-old designer’s personal Prince Charming (of nearly a year), David Katzenberg, also 24. After arriving an hour early for the event, he told PEOPLE, “I am very proud of her. She worked hard on it.”
After graduating from the Convent of the Sacred Heart high school in New York, Nicky Hilton launched her own clothing line, Chick by Nicky Hilton in 2004, a casual range for the young. She has also designed a line of handbags for Japanese company Samantha Thavasa from 2002-2005.
“It’s my first clothing line,” she said. “So it’s my baby.”
Aimed at girls and named for Hilton’s childhood moniker (”My parents thought I looked like Tweety Bird”), the line features flirty minidresses, floaty tops, playful patterns and super-high hemlines.
“It’s very cute, very girly, very feminine. It’s very reflective of the L.A. lifestyle — laid-back, casual,” she said. “Nicholai is definitely for the mature, sophisticated customer … whereas Chick is just fun pieces.”
Nicky is certainly taking the fashion game seriously after doing two fashion weeks in as many months she’s now off to Mexico and Russia to show the latest Nicholai collections. She presented her Chick Spring 2008 collection at Mercedes Benz Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring 2008 on Sunday, 14 October 2007. Nicky’s parents attended the show. “Nicky is so passionate about her fashion. It’s exciting to see her show,” they said before the show began.
Seated on the front row among others were celebrities Jamie Pressly and Chinese actress Bai Ling.
Still, Hilton seems humble about her international success. “I’m excited,” she said. “I’ve never been to Mexico City or Russia, so just for me to be able to go there is fun.”
