It will be all stilettos, all the time in the British capital next week as the fashion crowd flies in for London Fashion Week. The biggest names in British fashion will unveil their spring-summer collections as London Fashion Week. begins! London Fashion Week tends to be known for the big designer names, but a large part of it is actually about young up-and-coming designers. There is a large exhibition hall where they exhibit, and this is where we would generally go to look for interesting new designers.

While retailers feel the squeeze of the credit crunch, London Fashion Week is determined to buck the trend with a schedule packed with more parties than any previous season. Fashion Week is the subject both of effusive reporting and vexed debate – everyone agrees that London is inspiring and exciting, but short of funds and manufacturing facilities. A small but perfectly formed moment of fashion fabulousness took place in the Royal Suite of the Waldorf Towers, Manhattan on Monday. For it was here that Victoria Beckham presented what she modestly referred to as her “dream of a lifetime” to a select gaggle of fashion press. VICTORIA Beckham has gone from size zero to hero in the style stakes as her debut collection of dresses was hailed a success by the British fashion press. As the former Spice Girl revealed her debut fashion collection to a handful of fashion’s elite editors on Monday, she also showcased a daring new hairdo, a short spiky crop.
According to the former Posh Spice, whose husband, David Beckham, plays soccer for the Los Angeles Galaxy, the major department stores are fighting over the collection of 18 dresses, which will sell from £650 to £900, or $1,150 to $1,600.

John McCain shrugged off a poor prime time speech to the Republican convention on Thursday night to begin an aggressive play for the votes of the working class and women, heading off Friday on the campaign trail with his running mate, Sarah Palin, for the first time. Sarah Palin was preparing to take the stage at the Republican convention, a knot of teenagers was standing on a footbridge over the highway leading into MinneapolisSt Paul with a homemade sign that read: “Obama ’08”.
Had they nothing better to do? “It’s the first time that I’ve felt like this,” explained Ligeia Baumhofer. “Barack Obama has got us excited about politics.” A policeman told them to move their sign inside the railings and advised them to leave but they stayed to wave at car drivers honking support.
