Two researchers Stanford University, Dr. David Wise and Dr. Rodney Anderson, pioneered a new treatment for chronic pelvic pain syndromes for men and women that conventional medical and surgical treatments rarely help. The protocol, called the Wise-Anderson Protocol, is currently made available to patients suffering from muscle based pelvic pain in a monthly week long immersion clinic session in California. In 2003, Wise and Anderson published A Headache in the Pelvis, a popular book in its sixth printing, to introduce the technique to patients suffering from these conditions. They have documented their methodology in a number of Journal of Urology articles beginning in 2005. Their May 2011 article in the Journal outlines positive results found in 82% of individuals using their method. Their book, A Headache in the Pelvis, outlines a method to overcome chronic pain in the pelvic region caused by dysfunction and muscle spasms in the pelvic floor. Recent research by Anderson et. al. continues to focus on the phenomenon of muscle related chronic pain in the pelvis. In a large number of cases, pain and dysfunction thought to be caused by the pathology of the prostate and other organs, are now linked to pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.
Self-Treatment found most effective as described In A Headache In The Pelvis
The methodology described in A Headache in the Pelvis was brought to Stanford by Dr. Wise and developed by Doctors Anderson and Wise and used to treat patients seen over a period of 8 years in male and female patients who complained of chronic pelvic pain. The results of the Wise-Anderson research have been published in medical journals and presented at urological scientific meetings. The book A Headache in the Pelvis, is written for the lay reader without jargon and simply explains how chronic tension in the muscles of the pelvic floor can be responsible for a host of vexing and difficult symptoms. A Headache in the Pelvis outlines the scientific basis of the protocol. as well as describing to readers the use the technique in the self treatment.
The Wise-Anderson Protocol was developed in part in response to Dr. Wise’s own experience with chronic pelvic pain. Dr. Anderson, Professor of Urology Emeritus Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine., worked closely with Wise to develop the protocol.
