There are some adaptation processes to go through, many of them related to regular time-table, test anxiety, financial and cognitive aspects, social aspect, and so on. Here are some tips that can make the process easier.

1. Look for financial support or extra facilities
Many adults who go back to school rely on financial supports such as scholarships. For your information, scholarships are not only for school-aged youths. Many scholarships are available to older students, working mothers, and other non-traditional students. You can also search for universities which have extra study hours such as in the evening, to accommodate older students who have to work.

2. Establish your study time, and stick with it
If you were a college student, you dedicated most of your time to study. But if you are an adult, you have days full of job matters, family matters, and such. Pick one time that is convenient for you to study, such as in the late evening or early morning, and stick with it.

3. Manage test anxiety
When the test is coming, anxiety usually takes hold, especially when you are no longer adapt your mental state to face a test. There are lots of ways to reduce test anxiety, such as making sure that you are well-prepared, arriving early to the class, breathing deeply, taking time to make sure that you are understand about the instruction, answering the easiest questions first, and trusting yourself.

4. Have a good sleep
Having adequate sleep every night will not do you bad; researches showed that students who have better sleep result higher in test scores than those who have not slept adequately. Instead of cramming materials into your brain a night before the test, get some sleep instead.

5. Get to know your classmates
Many adults feel awkward when they have to sit in the class with students who are much younger than them. However, getting to know your classmates can help you perform better at class, whether it would be socializing at break time, or doing the school projects together. Who knows, you might build new friendship outside your office or neighborhood environments.

Deciding to start a business is a tough job for many prospective business women, especially for they who are about to have a business for the first time. However, there are still some points to ponder when you decide to start a business, and these points can be a guide to determine about what kind of business that you want to start or what your true motivation.

1. What are you looking for?
Your purpose or motivation can be the first lead to decide your business choices. If you are only looking for second income, consider representing a company to sell products such as insurance, cosmetic or health products. If you are interested in higher causes like contributing to the environment, work at an NGO or start a non-profit organization. If you want to be independent while expecting more time for the family, be a freelance worker or start a simple home business such as selling cookies or making handicrafts.

2. What do you like to do?
When you want to start a business, make sure that it is something that you will, or probably would enjoy. You can start by thinking about how to turn your hobbies or interests into a business.

3. What are your skills or talents?
Skills and talents are good sources to get inspirations for business ideas. Are you good in playing musical instruments, cooking, designing spaces or cards, or even taking care of pets? If your skills or talents are less obvious, you can ask for second opinions from your family or trusted friends.

4. What would you like to learn?
Many business ideas come when someone is interested to learn something new. If you suddenly have interests in accounting, cooking, sewing, or speaking in foreign language, take a course and polish yourself in the field. Once you get enough confidence in the new field, you can make them as a new opportunity. It takes a long time, true, but there are many perks you can get from learning a new skill.

Research performed by Utah Women and Education Project (UWEP) indicates that the willingness of young women to attend and graduate from college is influenced by extracurricular activities, finances conditions, and aspirations.

The results of the study are aimed to inform young women and anyone influential in their lives about the benefits of pursuing a post-secondary degree and ways to pursue one.

According to the result, young women in throughout the state are more likely to attend and graduate from college if they participated in extracurricular activities in junior high and high school. And the six specific activities favored by those women are: involvement in religious organization, participating in volunteer and community service, playing high school sports, joining a student club, being a member of an honor society and serving in the student government.

The chances of a young woman to attend and graduate from college, according to the research, will be even higher if they are holding a leadership position in any of those extracurricular activities. Meanwhile, the study remarked that half of the participants had no leadership roles in high school and they were shown to be significantly less likely to attend and graduate from college.

Based on the study, the UWEP researchers concluded that all young women should have at least one formal leadership position during high school, and to provide such roles, adults are believed to take part so that the young women will be encouraged to seek leadership opportunities.

The second factor is financial issues. Most of the study participants admitted they must save their own money to attend college, because more than half of the participants said they did not receive any financial support from their parents. So unless their parents are willing to support them, they must seek for financial aid from someone else.

The third is the young woman’s college aspirations. Several different studies show that female across the nation have higher aspirations for college graduation than male, however the same condition does not apply in Utah. Because many of the young women there think that having higher education is not a priority in their lives, even though it is important.

The ones who made decision of going to college early in their life, will much more likely to prepare, enter, and graduate because they have higher aspirations. Considering this, researchers suggest the influential individuals taking an active role in increasing college aspirations in young women by having conversations about it in a more aspiring way.

The UWEP researchers are optimistic that such attempts will be able to change the rates of women college attendance and graduation in Utah, which at the moment is still quite low. They insist that it is the responsibility of parents, teacher, guidance, counselors, administrators, church leaders and family members to change the condition.

When women choose to focus on entrepreneurship, they will tend to run all kinds of business with a careful calculation. Perhaps it is because their background of running the business was motivated by the hope of creating a family welfare. Most times they also need to join a community in which they can get support from others.

The spirit of entrepreneurship of women makes many of them successful in running a business. Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) discovered a phenomenon which occurred for the last for years, that the percentage of female entrepreneurship raised to more than 40 percent. BNI reported that from about 58,000 small businesses, 25 percent (about 12,000) are owned by women. The number has even been increased compared to the previous year.

“Several years earlier, the number of small business ran by women was less than 15 percent, today the number has raised to 25 percent,” explained Ayu Sari Wulandari, the Deputy Head of Small Business Division of BNI, in Women Entrepreneurship BNI-Femina event in Jakarta.

According to Ayu, there was another interesting phenomenon, that is: ‘women entrepreneurs have a lower number of NPL (Non Performing Loan), compared to male.’ Ayu added that women tend to come to the bank when they feel they are already established in business, this is also one of the reasons why businesswomen have lower NPLs.

The growth of women entrepreneur in Indonesia was recognized by BNI through the various programs they held. Such as in Palembang, around 500 females work in fashion business for the last three years. Business in designing and creative industries also has zero NPL, and the fashion products have even penetrated the European market. Batik Lasem Village in Pekalongan as well as Ulos Village in Samosir are growing vastly. In Ciampea, 18,000 women have business initiative.

“Women are stronger when they join a network in a community. Naturally, women have similar character, when gathering in a community they will control each other. Women also tend to have a greater shame; they don’t want to embarrass themselves nor their family. That’s why they carefully calculate everything so they don’t have to be in debt with someone else. A joint-responsibility system is the power of women in building and developing their business,” explained Ayu.

While many women have earned as many achievements as men at professional world, they still often feel stressed more than men. This can be caused by many factors, like juggling between double tasks as a career woman and mother, gender discrimination, or psychological factors like low self-confidence and inability to cope with various obstacles and stress factors.

Some problems sometimes come from our own mind. Many professionals, especially women, suffer from the “imposter syndrome” in which they believe they are intellectual frauds, consider themselves less competent than they really are, do not internalize their successes, and fear being “found out.” Professionals who feel like impostors are more vulnerable to the negative health effects of stress.

Being a professional career woman is not an easy task, especially if she has to create balance between work and family. To avoid getting health and psychological problems from stress, here are some stress coping ways for professional career women.

Problem-focused coping are take-charge strategies that deal with the problem at hand or eliminate the stressors through problem solving. It is often enhances feelings of control and reduces stress and its adverse consequences, assuming that the situation can be changed. Positive forms of emotion-focused coping deal with the emotional reactions one has to the stressful event. When a situation is unchangeable, emotion-focused coping may lead to healthier adaptation.

Negative forms of emotion-focused coping, such as denial, self-blame, and ruminative coping (repeatedly thinking about the problem without trying to change it), are associated with maladaptive health outcomes. While some research suggests that men are more likely to use problem-focused coping strategies and women emotion-focused strategies, when education and career are accounted for gender differences in coping style disappear.

A social-support network is associated with lower perceived work-home conflict, increased job and life satisfaction, enhanced perceptions of control, and fewer stress-related health problems. Women are more likely to seek social support than men and tend to demonstrate greater health benefits from social support. Seek social support from formal sources of support, such as mentoring programs, as well as informal support groups like brown-bag lunch groups and e-mail discussion lists. Seek opportunities to interact with friends, easing perceptions of isolation.

Of course, we must also look for opportunities to relax. Determine what must be done now, what can wait, and what requires consistent small bursts of activity. Allocate your time alongside your priorities: spend time first with your children and then find time for the housework. Decide to let some parts of your home receive less attention. Of course, rely on your spouse and ask him or her to lend a hand every day.

Making time for yourself is as simple as allocating a couple of hours each week without work, family obligations, or chores. It will go a long way in helping you maintain some semblance of balance.

At today’s condition, people should be more careful and wise in spending every single cent of their money. Especially in shopping for daily needs. If you happen to be a regular shopper of supermarkets, I think now it is time to convert to the traditional market. Besides of the prices which slightly cheaper, you can also participate in helping the welfare improvement of the traditional sellers.
These comparisons below hopefully can help you notice the cost and benefit of shopping in traditional and modern market.

Prices of Goods
The goods sold in traditional markets and supermarkets have significant difference in pricing. In the traditional market, the price of certain items can even be 30 percent lower than the ones sold in the supermarket, especially for fresh products such as vegetables, or spices like onion, garlic, ginger, pepper, etc.

Bargaining
Traditional market is the place that allows buyers to bid for lower prices. If you are good at bidding, you can get goods at a very cheap price. Different with modern market, the goods have been labeled with fixed prices.

Discount
Discount can only be found at supermarkets. The form of discounts can be varied and also tempting. However, you need to make sure that it’s not just a mere gimmick to make you become a consumptive shopper, because people are easily tempted on buying things they don’t really need.

Convenience shopping
It is obvious that shopping in modern market is much more convenient than in traditional market. They have wider area, more clean and neat, and equipped with air conditioning. While traditional markets are narrow, cramped, crowded, and sometimes doesn’t have pleasant smell.

Freshness of products
For fresh products like meat, fish, vegetables, eggs, etc., the traditional markets typically provide much fresher products than the supermarkets do, because they have not added preservatives. It is reasonable, because traditional market’s sellers have limited funds that they only able to buy a small amount of goods as supplies. That’s why they have fresher products.

Dawnmarie Souza, a Connecticut woman was fired after posting a comment about her boss on Facebook. The emergency medical technician critized her supervisor on her personal Facebook page and then traded Facebook messages about the negative comments with other employees.
It was started when Souza’s supervisor asked her to prepare and investigative report when a customer complained about her work. She claimed she was denied representation by union, the Teamsters Local 443. At the end of the day, she logged onto her Facebook page from a home computer and wrote: “Looks like I’m getting some time off. Love how the company allows a 17 to be a supervisor.” A 17 – a code her company used – to refer a psychiatric patient. Surprisingly, her remarks drew supportive Facebook postings from other colleagues.

According to John Barr, an attorney representing the company, the real reason Souza was fired was because of two separate complaints about her ‘rude and discourteous service’ within a 10-day period. He said that she would have been fired whether the Facebook comments were made or not. Barr also said that the company understands that workers have right to talk about wages and working conditions, but it stands by its policy against employees discussing the company on the Internet, that their policy does not allow someone to make disgusting statements about co-workers.

Jonathan Kreisberg, director of the board’s regional office in Hartford, said that he acknowledged that the law protecting worker speech has some limits, such as not allowing employees to disrupt the workplace or engage in threatening conduct. But according to him, the company’s policy is overly broad, since Souza’s Facebook comments was made at her own time and own her own computer. So what she did was actually did not cross a legal line.

The National Labor Relations Board stated that American Medical Response of Connecticut Inc, had illegally fired Dawnmarie Souza. The NLRB officials claim the company has an unlawful policy that prohibits employees from making disparaging remarks about supervisors and depicting the company ‘in any way’ over the Internet without permission.
Lafe Solomon, the board’s acting general counsel said that this is the first complained they’ve issued over comments on Facebook, they will have to develop policies regarding to the matter.

The title above can be very discouraging for women at those ages, but I must assure you not to worry because it is only something based on a certain research which I am quite positive, does not apply similarly in every part of the world. Instead of being discouraged, I think you must consider this as an alarm that women today must think and work smarter either you are in the mentioned range of age or not.

The study said that the reasons to such bankruptcy are divorce and the death of the spouse. According to Keith Stevens, an accountant of Wilkins Kennedy Accountancy Firm, after divorcement or the death of their husband, most women feel depressed for their changing of lifestyle. Stevens also said that they don’t want the children to feel the burden of financial problems especially, after facing the fact that their parents are separated.

The research shows, after 5 years of divorce, the men’s income are mostly raised by 25 percent. On the contrary to women, their income decreased by 9 percent. The reason to this might be caused by the fact that the men are no longer obliged to pay for their ex-wives needs, while divorce women must learn to stand on her own, after relying on the husband for certain period of time.

Especially for housewives, besides being jobless, at the middle-age most women have children who are still at school-age; the age where they still need full attention and care. This adds the difficulty for moms in finding a flexible hour job. Another threatening fact, according to Stevens, is the demand for single lady workers is certainly higher, because they are considered to be more attractive as well as flexible, compared to single mom workers. As the result to that, those moms end up with low-paid job such as administrative work, catering, cashier, and cleaning service. Some even stay jobless. “It is true that many housewives today may have side-jobs, but without good business knowledge, such efforts will not be sufficient,” Stevens added.

Well ladies, were you still feeling discouraged after reading this article? I think it’s time for us get up and start to give extra time and attention to improve ourselves in many ways. So, either you are planning to grab your books and go back to school, or finding alternatives to increase your income, or doing many other things that could inspire others, just do it with perseverance and enthusiasm. And remember, it is never too late to learn.

And it has been believed that women’s education is a key driver for the economic growth of countries around the world. The fact has been raised since the US President, Barrack Obama in his speech in Cairo stated that a woman who denied an education is denying equality. He also said that countries where women are well-educated are far more likely to be prosperous. This must have raised the sights of millions of girls around the world to finally get the chance to learn.
One of the implementation of the President’s saying is the Moms Return to School Scholarship. With the economy downside condition, the idea of going back to school especially for moms seems to be a chance of preparation for them to be qualified workers, later on when the economy bounce back. The United States government seems to be very committed to helping all moms return to school. One of the first points of call for Obama when he became President, were the Federal Pell Grants.

The Federal Pell Grants are now giving above $5,000 grant for a single mom, and it is one of the best grants that moms in the US can currently get. The grant could be applied by choosing a college or university that they want to attend, they can also choose to study online or attending a physical campus. Because online study is the most chosen path form mom who want to be at home with their children while still being able to study at once. The Pell Grant Proposal would also be available for over 250,000 students and hope that many of the students will be the classic stay at home moms, as well as single and working moms who wish to go to college because of a grant or scholarship.

As women’s education now is becoming a significant issue in the US, let’s hope that the government of other countries, especially the developing countries also aware of such needs that they soon will give similar opportunity for women in their countries.

According to the United States department of Labor, the Leading Occupations of Employed Women for 2009 were secretaries, nurses, teachers, and cashiers. I was actually surprised by the finding, because I thought it could be something more like lawyers, marketing specialists, or finance managers, considering the technologies today and the things that called ‘women emancipation’ and feminism. Not that it’s something wrong or bad, but with the fact it seems like nothing much happened in the past 50 years for working women.

Frankly saying that the top 3 jobs for women I mentioned before are not the kind of jobs which usually considered to be high income generators. But it is obvious that women today are much more active role in their financial futures, as stated by Women and Co.,”Modern Women are taking the reins when it comes to earning, planning and investing our wealth.” And the statement seemed to be proved by a survey which said that:
-a generation ago 39% of women were knowledgeable about investing; today 82% of women are knowledgeable about investing.
-a generation ago, 24% of women had a financial adviser, today 57% have a financial advisor
-a generation ago, 53% of women set financial objectives, today 93% set financial objectives

So even though the top employers of women remain much the same as they did a generation ago, that doesn’t reflect how very diverse women’s career paths actually are today. And with a consolation that in 2010, women overtook man in the workplace (mostly because the biggest layoffs were in the male-dominated fields of manufacturing and construction), female-dominated fields of education and health care were considerable safer. Perhaps, that’s why woman is expected to earn more than man by 2028. So, considering the snail pace changing we have at the work force over a generation ago, I think women must be encouraged more to make better change in the future.

Since 1990’s era, skinny-looking models have been walking elegantly through the runways, drastically changed both people and modeling industry’s definition of “straight-size” and “plus-size” model’s standards.

Crystal Renn, a well-known plus-size model, is one of the panelist during the Glamour Women of the Year Convention at 92Y, along with her fellow model Paulina Porizkova. In the middle of forum, Porizkova suddenly interrupted Renn mid-sentence to get the audience’s attentions, and asked her to stand shoulder-to-shoulder beside her.

“I’m pretty much the same size now that I was in the eighties, when I was actually modeling, and I was known for doing bathing suits,” explained Porizkova, who is slightly larger than Renn at that time. After that, while she was pointing toward Renn and herself, Porizkova added, “Crystal is a plus-size model. I am a plus-size model. But this body was also an average-size model in 1980. Times have changed.”

Renn made some points that, among other things, expressed her wish to see much more diversity on the runways. She explained that, while there are extremities in modern modeling industries in which they have size 2s and zeros opposite to 14s and 16s, she would like people to see all the different sizes in a runway; from 2s to 4s, 6s, 12s, and 14s. That way, all will be about clothes instead of controversy about body sizes.

Renn presented an easy way to make runway work more accessible to a more diverse spectrum of models: designers simply need to make their sample sizes bigger. Making clothes samples in 8s to 10s will widen the opportunities of many more women to explore various spectrums in clothing, thus rising the modeling industry’s chances to embrace more customers and investors.

“Right now, we’re all talking all the time about how we want to see fuller-figured women in fashion, but that’s really impossible unless we have the clothes,” Renn commented. She also stated that standards about body size are actually relative for each person. Once, she found a couple of comments in her blog that clearly stated about her opinion : one comment said she is obese, while the other said she looks skinny and emaciated. Both in the same page.

Shopping activity brings its own fun, from hunting, choosing, to getting new released items. But, if you don’t want to waste your money for something useless and non-lasting in trend, there are several things for you to keep in mind.

- Buy the things you really like. If you really like it, you won’t easily ignore it.
- Buy something with an average standard level of trend, means it will still make you look stylish even if it’s yesterday’s trend.
- Eventhough you rarely going to a party, it won’t hurt to buy yourself a gown and a quite luxurious party accessories. Let’s consider it as a preparation for a sudden invitation.
- If you don’t like wearing gowns, you can simply buy a pretty top that would fit and look glamorous to match with only jeans.
- Add some accessories like necklace or earrings. If you want, you can add an elegant purse. Now you’re ready to look attractive for any kinds of party.
- Beside, clothing, dress, accessories, and purse, you might need a casual jacket or blazer. Make sure you choose neutral colors, like black, white, brown, or cream, so it would match with any dress.
- After discussing the knick-knacks to beautify your look, never forget another most important term, that is shoes. Even a fine look can be unacceptable if you wear the wrong kind of shoes. You must have some pairs of shoes. Also choose for neutral colors that would fit any dress in any kinds of condition. You better have your own shoes for work and exercise. Nice and comfortable slippers are also needed in your ‘must have’ list.

Other complement items such as shawl, hat, glasses, and other can be added if you have extra budget. Happy efficient shopping!

In the end, Sean declared as winner after Tuesday’s big election. Surely, this is such a big break for the couple, since Sean’s winning has broken the glass ceiling for reality show stars, and show them that there are a lot of things they can do out there, including tin the world of politics.

Rachel Campos, the former cast of Real World : San Fransisco and Sean Duffy met while they were still swimming in the world of reality show. It was in the episode of Road Rules : All Star with Sean Duffy, where both met and eventually got married. Rachel had dealt with a tragedy before; she had intended to marry Real World producer, before both were involved in a horrible car accident which left the producer dead and Rachel was severely injured on her leg. Rachel finally went to marry Sean, became a wonderful wife for her former cast fellow, and the couple now has six children.

It is surely a tough job to become the wife of a member from The House of Representatives, and so far, Rachel is handling her job wonderfully. She gave full support to Sean during campaign and election, and cheered with him when he finally declared a winner. Sean also admit that his former cast fellows in Real World also gave big support and contributions, but he does not think that his career in Real World really helped him through his political campaign and election.

“People are not concerned about a reality show from fifteen years ago,” he said in a Daily Caller interview last May.

Nathan Bell, the council’s director of research and policy analysis said that the pipeline of women doctoral candidates was built since the 1980s, where they have received the majority of bachelor’s and master’s degree.

“Women are building on the gains of an earlier cohort of female scholars who were pioneers”, said Elizabeth Sutton, an assistant professor at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. The lady who received her Ph.D. in art history in 2009 also said that they used to have more female mentors to look up to.

Based on the disciplines, women earned only 22 percent of degrees in engineering, and 27 percent of math and computer science doctorates. However, they represented 60 percent in the social and behavioral sciences, 67 percent in education and a full 70 percent of doctoral recipients in the health science – the field which showed the greatest one-year increase in applications overall.

“Although more women are earning doctorates, it isn’t in the fields that earn the highest salaries. Men received 78 percent of engineering doctorates and 73 percent of math and computer sciences doctorates. Men’s dominance in these fields helps explain why women report lower incomes than men”, Bell said.

The economy likely played a role in last years’ results, with the recession having a particularly significant impact on men’s decision to pursue graduate education. “Ultimately, it really wasn’t a surprise to see women earn more doctoral degrees than men this year”, Bell said after looking at the data over the past decade, “it was bound to happen.” While the rate of increase may perhaps not be as steep as in the past, Bell predicts that women will continue to earn the majority of doctorates in the coming years.

But there’s a recent study by researchers at the University of Kentucky which found that certain types of gossip can actually be good for your career. Here are the types of rumors:

- “I heard X from the Finance Department is going to leave the company.”

When you hear someone is leaving the company that can mean a chance for you to fill the position. Therefore you must prepare yourself before the official news came out. You can improve skills, work, and prepare appropriate arguments for employers willing to put you in the position of the deceased.

- “Y has achieved this year sales target in only eight months!”

When you hear about your partner’s achievements you should be challenged to perform similar or even exceed his/her achievements.
“Feeling challenged to also make achievements in the company is a good omen. There fore, sensitive to gossip about fellow who excel should be a trigger for you, “said Chris Perry, a personal branding consultant.

- “She cheated with her boss, that’s how she got promoted!”

According to Travis Grosser, a doctoral candidate in management at the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics, employees who gossip the most tend to get lower performance evaluations from their supervisors.
“Negative gossip is used maliciously for character assassination and to undermine the success of others,” Grosser says. “Any gossip that attacks another individual and is of suspect veracity is not very constructive.”
Perry added: “You don’t want to be branded as someone who initiates or spreads gossip about the company or people in it. This will hurt the company and will hurt your reputation and personal brand.” So stay out of trouble and only spread good rumors.

- “Mr. A started to work for the company at the level of clerk, with all his hard work, dedications and contributions; he’s now a General Manager of the Marketing Division.”

Positive gossip should be left alone by the company. Because this can lead to high productivity by employees, said Grosser.
According to Grosser, in every company there must be a very prominent employee, who works on great projects, provides good profit for the company, full of fresh ideas, and a good co-worker for his teammates.
Such achievements of these employees must be spread to other employees, especially new employees who might need tips of “how to become great employees as well as legends in a company.”

So, look at how a simple positive gossip can move a lot of employee motivation. So, let’s help spread positive gossip!

Max and Emme, make their modeling debut as the faces of Gucci’s new children’s line. They appear in the ads along with their mom. Yes, her kids are now Gucci models.

Jennifer, Max and Emme were seen shooting the ads, that features The Backup Plan actress looking tanned and healthy, on a beach in Malibu in July. Sources say the twins are dressed in Gucci clothes and accessories, including sunglasses.

The singer (and also actress as well) is pictured walking on the beach with the twins in her arms in the shots and Lopez admits she is so happy with the results. She tells US Weekly “It’s the first time I have worked with my kids in that way. It was a totally special experience… I did a photo shoot when they were three weeks old, but now that they are two and a half, it’s totally different!”

The two-and-a-half-year-old twins Max and Emme dressed up in Gucci’s finest kiddies’ threads alongside their famous mum for a shoot on the beach. And while seasoned professional Jen pulls her most sultry face for the camera, the two tots seem happier just to dig in the sand.

“Emme picks out her own outfits and likes to sleep in her princess dress.” As for her son, Lopez admits, “It’s hard to get Max dressed. He prefers to run around the house with no clothes on.”

In honor of the collection (with pieces ranging from $80 to $1,600, in stores in November), Gucci donated $1 million to UNICEF’s Schools for Africa initiative and $50,000 to Lopez’s charity the Maribel Initiative, which promotes greater access to health care for women and children worldwide.

You work with talented and creative people in the huge industry. You can find your name on billboards. Sounds cool, but fashion design could be the hardest professionals job either. But it always can be done with hard work, then nothing is impossible for your dream.

Everybody start as a newbie. Laura Ashley got her start as a secretary. Vera Wang began designing when she engaged at age 39 and couldn’t find a suitable wedding gown for the mature first bride. And even Ralph Lauren, he was born into a middle-class family who lived in the Bronx, and used to buy suits with his pocket money at age 12. He is now one of the richest and most famous fashion designers in the world.

It clearly takes hard work, creativity, and a true passion for fabulous designs to achieve success as a fashion designer, here are some tips for you to start your dream job :

1. Read a lot. Read everything you can about fashion, biographies, magazine articles, everything. Regularly read fashion bibles could make you stay up to date to current and future trends.

2. Take an art class in drawing and sketching. Learn to draw drapery, to understand the flow of fabric (how it drapes). Also learn about color, and mixing color. Know what colors look good together and how color groups are assembled. Focus on drawing actual fashions, and perfecting drawing bodies.

3. Take a sewing or dressmaking class. Study the patterns and become familiar with sewing pattern shapes. Sew for real people (like family and friends). You will learn a great deal about dealing with a customer and fitting the human body in all its variations (tall, short, petite or large).

4. Develop a working knowledge of a variety of design-related software programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

5. Take marketing and business courses, in addition to design courses. Knowledge of the business end of the fashion industry is essential to your career.

6. Portfolio and Resume. A good portfolio should hold all your sketches and then you will be able have an interview and showing your designs to the interviewers.

7. Set up an internship. You will gain priceless experience, and it will make you easier to find jobs.

8. First job. For the first time maybe you won’t be the head designer yet, but you might work for a designer. But as you work, you will move up the career ladder, working at many positions and gaining valuable industry experience.

On the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s own blog, there’s one posting by one of its employees that suggested women are to blame for the wage gap solely because they take time off to have children has gotten a very public smack-down from a top Chamber executive.
The title of the posting is “Equality, Suffrage and a Fetish for Money,” which went up Wednesday, Brad Peck , ChamberPost editor and Senior Director of Communications accused Democratic women who compare the fight for fair pay to the fight for suffrage of having “Scrooge-like fetish for money.” This would, of course, be the same Chamber that regularly advocates for policies on everything from environmental regulation to, yes, equal pay to tort reform that would allow its members to increase profits.
In Peck’s part, which was intended to serve as a response to the DNC’s call to consider the Paycheck Fairness Act, Peck quoted liberally from FreedomWorks employee and conservative blogger Tabitha Hale and New York Times economics columnist David Leonhardt to “prove” that the entirety of the wage gap was due to women’s personal choices. Thus, Peck opined, women that seek to erode the wage gap are just fetishizing money over family. In fact, Peck said, “those fighting for “full equality” are trying to actually legislate away choice” — the choice to make less money.

Peck Said “But as we all seek to fit our values into a dynamic 24/7 economy, let’s not overlook the obvious, immediate, power-of-the-individual solution: choosing the right place to work and choosing the right partner at home.”
For the reason that, of course, achieving the right work-life balance is a matter of just picking where one would like to work and just finding the right person to deal with the “life” stuff.
Undoubtedly, he felt that he was on fairly safe ground with this post. The Chamber unequivocally opposed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act; it has and continues to oppose the Paycheck Fairness Act that the DNC supports; and it has as one of its legislative priorities to “Oppose efforts to expand the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) by covering smaller businesses and making leave paid.” But between the brutal comments and what we can only assume were more than a couple of calls from women Chamber members, Peck ended up, it appears, with quite a surprise.

The Chamber’s COO David Chavern posted one of his very intermittent blog posts late last night at ChamberPost, disavowing Peck’s original post, and taking a swipe at his own employee in the process:

He said “There is a lot that I don’t like about the piece. It is simplistic and misguided. Even worse, I find it very, very old fashioned. “Women still face challenges at work because of their own work-life choices”, blah, blah, blah. It is an argument from the 1960′s.

Actually, the trouble is the argument that doesn’t explain a whole bunch of bad things. Why, for example, does the number of Fortune 500 women CEO’s and senior managers seem to have topped out? That is a truth that impacts a whole bunch of women who have made a wide variety of work-life choices. It certainly isn’t an outcome one would predict if all companies were really the “equal opportunity” (let alone “equal outcome”) workplaces that Brad implies that they are. The “glass ceiling” is real and simply blaming it on women’s work-life choices is ridiculous.

As we know, there are a lot of good evidence that women make great entrepreneurs. Shouldn’t that tell us something? Why is it that a large number of large, institutional environments don’t work for women — but ones they create for themselves do?
Moreover, the bottom line is that I found Brad’s post to be both wrong and wrong-headed. Luckily, as the COO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce my opinion on these matters counts a lot more than his does when it comes to Chamber policy and operations.”
More of a burn if Chavern intended to reverse any of the Chamber’s many policy stances that could help alleviate the very problems even Chavern sees in the American business world.
