Sometimes the title is questioned many times especially in Christianity. The passage of Ephesians 5:21-33 are always being the reference of Christian marriage couple in determining who the real boss in marriages is. If it is taken literally – as most Christians normally do – the answer to such question will be MEN. But is that what the passage really means?

Dr. Eddie L. Hyatt and Susan C. Hyatt in their book ‘Three Reasons Why Ephesians 5:21-33 is Not about Authority in Marriage’ will give the answer to our question.

1. The Passage is not about Authority, considering the culture the kind of marriage practiced by the Ephesians.
As the form of marriage practiced by the Ephesians was known as ‘marriage without hand’ – means ‘marriage without commitment,’ the wife remained under the authority of her father or the oldest male in her birth family. The wife’s family could take her at anytime and this made uncertainty destabilized the marriage relationship. Because a father-in-law can threat the husband by taking away the wife, if he didn’t leave his faith (especially at that time where paganism was the main belief).
The meaning of ‘submit’ in the passage actually refers to ‘to identify with’, instead of ‘being put under.’ So what Paul, the writer of the passage, meant: A married woman was no longer to identify with her birth family but was, instead, to identify completely with her husband; and the two were to be one. According to the National Enquirer, Simpson, who has put on some noticeable weight in recent months, is expecting her first child with boyfriend Eric Johnson, an NFL player whom she has been dating since May. Alicia Keys and music producer Swizz Beatz have welcomed their first child together. According to reports, Keys checked herself into New York’s St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center on Thursday (October 14) and hours later delivered a baby boy, she and Swizzy named Egypt Daoud Dean.

Keys, 29, and Swizz, 31, married in August, following the May announcement that they were expecting their first child. This is the first child for 29-year-old Keys. Swizz Beatz, 31, has two sons from previous relationships. Keys’ current four-month-long Freedom Tour wraps up on June 4. She’ll also perform at the FIFA World Cup’s kickoff concert on June 10 in South Africa.

Swizz Beatz couldn’t hold back his excitement, and shared with fans, via Twitter (@TheRealSwizzz), how happy he was late yesterday evening. “I’m so thankful for everything I been blessed with in my life wowwwwww! #realtalk,” he wrote.
