1. The Passage is not about Authority, considering the culture the kind of marriage practiced by the Ephesians.

What Paul meant with the word ‘submit’ in the passage, has nothing to do with subordination to authority. It is clearly acknowledged since Paul begins this discussion with a call for Christians to identify with one another (verse 21: “Submitting yourselves [all believers] to one another in the fear of Christ.”). Certainly obvious that it is a call to solidarity, loyalty, and all such intimate commitment demands which works in both directions equally; it is unilateral and mutual, not male-dominated.

3. The word ‘Head’ (Greek: Kephale) doesn’t refer to Rulership.
Kephale actually means ‘source’. Paul used the word to teach the Ephesians that women were created from the same substance as men, because at that time, according to the pagan idea, women were made of an inferior substance between man and animal. So Paul leads the husbands to love their wives as their own bodies (vs. 23), because the wives are a fitting and equal partner.

Legally, most strata-titled blocks have to put meeting agendas and minutes of their executive committee (EC) meetings on display to all other owners on a noticeboard. There, they allow only official notices and often incomprehensible minutes written in ridiculous legalese.

That’s a shame because a noticeboard is usually the heart of a good building, a means of residents communicating with each other, of the building manager letting everyone know what’s happening, and a great way for an EC to keep in touch with everyone. Then, grumbles about problems in the building spill over into real anger far less often. If, say, the pool heater is broken, and residents find out first by a notice on the board before they dive into icy waters, they’re much more likely to be reasonable about the inconvenience.

The clever residents of one building put mini noticeboards in its lifts. It’s amazing how few people will take time to stop at a noticeboard, but in those seconds traveling from floor to floor, people can pick up valuable information.

If you’re on the EC of your block, push to make that EC’s work transparent to other owners, with good, comprehensive and clear minutes of meetings put on the noticeboard, notices of all meetings planned, and signs about any changes or announcements. If the EC takes up the challenge and becomes much more communicative, you will be amazed at how effective it is in making residents feel part of the life of the building.

One member of a new EC suggested that the EC issue a newsletter with, among other items, EC members’ names, phone numbers and email addresses attached. The chair was outraged. “I don’t want people phoning me up at all hours of the day and night with stupid complaints.” He was ousted at the next election with one of the complaints against him being that he was “aloof and unapproachable”. His replacements have not, as yet, suffered death by phone call, and say they’re probably called by residents three times a year each, tops.

Charities welcomed the idea but warned it may not be effective. Critics of the bonus, which will be paid to middle-class mothers as well as poorer families, are likely to say that the money may just be wasted because there is nothing to prevent pregnant women spending it on drink, cigarettes, chocolate or even clothes. For example, there is no measure to ensure the cash is spent on healthy food and babies also need good nutrition before 29 weeks.
What makes this scheme absurd is the fact that the money will be allocated when women are seven months’ pregnant (the words “stable door” and “bolted” come to mind) and will be paid similarly to child benefit.
John Jenkins from British Medical Association Cymru said, ???We want to see the evidence that this will improve the nutrition of mothers and babies.
“The majority of pregnant women who want to eat properly do so. A grant of this kind for them is inappropriate. Some pregnant women choose not to eat fruit and vegetables. Unless they are forced to spend their money on nutritious food then neither mother nor baby will benefit.”

For most middle-class families it is pretty much as batty as if Alan Johnson, the Health Secretary, had asked mummy out for a date at the Ivy restaurant. And we doubt that those nice organic companies who leave boxes full of wholesome produce on doorsteps throughout my locale of Cambridge deliver to, say, the tower blocks of Peckham.
And even if a cash-strapped mother uses this money as it is intended, will it help her locate produce that has not been sprayed to within an inch of its life with carcinogenic pesticides? We doubt it.
To get the payment, however, a woman would have to meet with a health professional for tips on pregnancy health and welfare advice. A spokeswoman for the National Childbirth Trust said: “This proposal sounds good in principle – nutrition in pregnancy is very important.
“However, the logistics of the scheme need to concentrate on ensuring that the funding directly benefits women and their babies nutritionally.”

Fruit and vegetable, despite all the hype, provide very little in the way of nutrition and health products. Fruit for example, provides sugar, vitamin C and certain other anti-oxidents. Sugar is a serious health problem, linked to infections, which it feeds, tooth-decay and heart disease and many other ills, and also, via fructose, drains the body of that most important mineral : magnesium (health spas are almost always magnesium wells). Vitamin C has proven, finally, to be an ‘ordinary’ vitamin, inneffective at all that has in the past be claimed for it. Anti-oxidents, much hyped, are leaving contradictory effects in actual studies.
Vegetables, which is defined by the government as excluding potatoes, appear to only have the property of reducing carbohydrate intake since almost all are ultra-low in cabs. As for nutrition, they barely give a thing, and what they give is not very bio-available.
The single most nutritional substance is meat, and the wonder food is liver. But people now think they are toxic.

One in five Australians will suffer the miseries of hay fever, as grasses, weeds and trees release tonnes of pollen into the air from September on.
Inhaling the microscopic pollen will cause itchy eyes, streaming noses, scratchy throats and sneezing in sufferers. But is it seasonal allergic rhinitis, perennial allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, or just plain old hay fever?
Just as there are many names to call a stuffed-up nose, there are also many solutions. Spend some time working through the confusing titles and find a solution that suits you.
Although many of us would label a congested, itchy nose as hay fever, there are differences between this seasonal allergy, all-year allergies and the pain and headaches of sinusitis.

Canberra allergy specialist Dr Raymond Mullins says it boils down to whether or not you have an allergic nose, or one that overreacts to allergens. Having an allergic nose can have profound effects for sufferers. For some, it’s not just an irritating sneeze or sniffle, but something that means they can’t sleep, work or learn properly because of the symptoms.

The Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy says the incidence of hay fever has doubled over the last 25 years and estimates it accounts for up to 500,000 lost work days a year.
“People who have really severe symptoms find it really debilitating. They can’t sleep and they can’t function properly,” says Dr Mullins.
And many with an allergic nose will also find they have sinus trouble, with infection causing pain and headaches.

As Dr Mullins explains, sniffly noses arise because of your body’s attempts to fight off what it sees as an invader – whether that’s pollen, dust mites or mould.
“What happens is that your body is treating the pollen like an invader that’s doing you harm. What triggers the symptoms is your body’s response to it,” Dr Mullins says.
“An early reaction by the body is to release chemicals such as histamine into the tissues. That’s when you get the symptoms: the sneezes, the extra mucus, the swelling in the nose.”
If it’s a springtime experience, the condition is known as seasonal allergic rhinitis – or hay fever. It’s called this because it occurs at a certain time of year and is an allergic reaction, resulting in the inflammation of the passages lining the nose.

Pollen from grasses, trees and weeds causes most of the seasonal allergies. Different plants release their pollen at varying times, and the flowering season can run from September to as late as March.

Symptoms tend to be the classic watery mucus, sneezing, itchy eyes and itchy mouth. But some people may have perennial allergic rhinitis, which is similar to hay fever, but is caused by a reaction to something that’s in the environment most of the time. This would typically be dust mites, mould or pet dander (particles of pet fur or feathers). These people have symptoms all year, rather than when particular plants are flowering, and they tend to be worse at night and in the morning.

Untreated allergic rhinitis can lead to problems with the sinuses, which are cavities in the bones of the skull. There are a number of different sinuses in the face, above, below and behind the eyes, ranging in size from a grape to a golf ball. They are lined with membranes and produce mucus, which drains to the nose through narrow tubes. If these openings become blocked through swelling or mucus, the sinuses can’t drain properly. “We are not too sure what sinuses are supposed to do, but it’s suspected they make the skull lighter and help the voice to resonate,” says Dr Mullins.

Out of sight, out of mind. This saying rings true most of us when it comes to taking care of our skin during winter. But just because it’s hidden under layers of clothes, doesn’t mean winter skin needs any less care. In fact it’s during the colder months that skin is at its driest and in need of the most attention. So if you have been neglecting it your skin’s ready to be exfoliated – the first step to restoring it to good condition.

Skin Is A Transient Thing
Every 24 hours you make new skin. As the new skin cells push to the top, the old cells appear on the surface as dry skin. Some of the old skin cells are removed by your clothes, but many remain clinging to the surface. It’s these unshed dead cells that make your skin look dull and patchy.

These another important thing to consider and it’s what will help motivate you to keep exfollating. The skin is the largest eliminating organ of your body, which means that exfoliating is not just a beautifying exercise for your skin, it also has benefits for your health, helping to get rid of wastes and toxins. So if you want to have great skin and work towards generally feeling better, it’s time to start exfoliating.

Dry Skin Brushing
This is the most cost effective and efficient way to rid your skin of old dead cells. The brushing is done on your dry skin just before you shower and only takes a few minutes. Use a natural vegetable bristle brush (not nylon), which are available from most health-food stores for around $10.

Always brush in a circular motion, beginning with your feet and moving up towards your heart. Do one leg at a time, starting with the top of your foot, then the sides, then your ankle and your leg. Make sure you don’t miss your knee. Repeat for your other leg, then continue over your torso, your back and arms. Don’t use the body brush on your face.

The first time you skin brush you may notice white dust in the air – that’s the old cells that you’ve brushed away. Your skin may also look white but will return to normal – in factlook much better – after you’ve exfoliated a couple of times and cleared the back-up of cells. Brushing will also stimulate the superficial blood and lymphatic circulation, which will help to purify the skin.

Have a warm shower after brushing to wash away any impurities that have come to the surface. If you don’t have a warm shower, these impurities will be left sitting on the surface of the skin and can cause itching or irritation. Plus, warm water feels great on that newly exposed layer of skin.

Start by dry brushing a couple of times a week for two weeks to clear any build-up. From then on, once a fortnight is all you’ll need; any more often may cause skin irritation.

I probably have more intimate conversations with my hairstylist than I do with my two sisters. We weren’t close as kids, so I never expected much from them emotionally-until I gave birth to my first child. Facing the enormous challenges of motherhood, I yearned for their love and support. But I didn’t know how to reach out.

I’m not alone. Millions of American adults don’t get along with a brother or sister, according to the National Survey of Families and Households. This is unfortunate, especially since these connections are potentially the strongest and longest-lasting of all family bonds. “Those with good sibling relationships tend to be happier and more positive, with a better sense of overall well-being,” says Paula Avioli, Ph.D., assistant psychology chair at Kean University in New Jersey. They may also be more likely to have close friendships later in life. That’s because they’ve learned how to be intimate and are less likely to have unresolved family issues that can taint dealings with colleagues, family, friends and lovers, explains Peter Goldenthal, Ph.D., author of the forthcoming Why Can’t We Get Along? Healing Adult Sibling Relationships.

Whether you’ve got unresolved conflicts or would just like to be closer, these six strategies will help you smooth over any rough spots and pave the way to a rewarding relationship.

REVISIT HER PAST
Depending on your family position (as the youngest, who was bullied, perhaps, or the oldest, who had to babysit), you and your sister’s “stories” may be very different, explains Marjory Levitt, Ph.D., coauthor of Sibling Revelry: 8 Steps to Successful Adult Sibling Relationships. These perspectives continue to shape your relationship.

To launch a discussion of early memories, draw a picture of your childhood home and ask your sister to do the same. Comparing sketches can be an eye-opener, says Levitt. “I remember two sisters in particular: One drew the front of the house while the other drew the back. They had occupied different worlds.” Listen to your sister’s story without “correcting” it. The idea is to gain insight into each other’s childhood, which is key to understanding-and accepting-one another.

RELINQUISH ROLES
As children we’re often cast in rolesbaby, caretaker, rebel-that later prevent us from relating as equals. “I was still treating my sister as if she was 5,” says Peggy, 34. “When I started treating her like an adult, we were finally able to talk about her troubled marriage, my commitment phobiathings we had never discussed before.”

To view your sister afresh, try to see competence in “the baby” or responsibility in “the rebel,” says Levitt. And relinquish your own role: If you’re the caretaker, for example, stop giving unsolicited advice. Soon you will see each other as multidimensional, improving your ability to relate.

OPEN UP
It’s never too late to open the lines of communication, says Goldenthal. But to avoid potential hurt, test the waters before spilling your deepest emotions. “Relate something only semipersonaldoubts about a job. for example,” Goldenthal advises. Ask your sister’s advice: “What would you do if your boss…?” This will help you develop a rapport in which you’ll feel safe broaching more sensitive topics.

CONFRONT OLD RIVALRIES
Sibling rivalry can teach us to handle conflict and push us to achieve. But when it’s fueled by jealousy or animosity, it can be devastating. While it has many causes-competition for friends, dates or grades-family experts agree that the most common trigger is parental favoritism (whether real or perceived).

Confront the issue head-on, says Victoria Hilkevitch Bedford, Ph.D., who has studied the subject of siblings. Tell your sister that you’re tired of the tension and would like to talk things over. Explain how you feel without making accusations, and listen without interrupting when it’s her turn to talk. “If you air your hurts, there’s a good chance you’ll find they’re based on misunderstanding,” says Bedford. Realizing how much of the rivalry was actually in your head will help you move beyond it.

ACCEPT HER FLAWS
You can’t make your sister more considerate, less selfish or a better listener, says Goldenthal. “But you can change your behavior to help minimize friction in the relationship.” For example, if your blood pressure rises just thinking about your sister showing up at the next family picnic empty-handed, you’re setting yourself up to be irritated. Prevent the conflict altogether by calling ahead and asking if she’d mind bringing a side dish or dessert. You’ll avoid disappointment and preserve good will.

REPAIR OLD RIFTS
Damaged sibling relationships can be difficult to mend, but experts agree it’s almost always worth a try. The trick is to tread lightly. Calling an estranged sibling or just showing up on her doorstep may be perceived as an ambush, says Goldenthal, who recommends writing a letter instead. “Note that it’s been a long time, that you’d really like to see her and that anytime she has any interest, you’ll be there. That way, you open the door to a warmer relationship without putting yourself at risk of outright rejection.”
