The new Miss USA for the 2011 was crowned on Sunday night in Las Vegas. She is an outgoing auburn-haired beauty from California, who bested 50 other women to win the 2011 Miss USA Pageant.
The 21 year-old full-time model dazzled the judges of the 60th anniversary of the Donald Trump-owned beauty pageant with her poise and looks. She even didn’t miss a beat when thrown a potentially tough question.
She was asked whether marijuana should be legalized or not. And as the answer she said that medical marijuana should be legal, but otherwise banned.
“I understand why that question would be asked, especially with today’s economy, but I also understand that medical marijuana is very important to help those who need it medically,” said the girl who claims herself as a huge history geek. Read more of Alyssa Campanella, the 2011 Miss USA
The MTV Video Music Awards 2010 had its usual share of interest and moments, with one special moment happening between Taylor Swift and Kanye West, although the two stars never crossed path on stage. “Who you are is not what you did,” Swift sang her hit Forgiveness. “You’re still an innocent.” While West’s song was more graphically expressive, the main hook to his song was “Let’s have a toast for the scumbags.” Last year, Kanye West caused a scene during Swift’s acceptance speech. This year, there was a forgiveness song from Swift to West, with West singing a song in return, more or less agreeing with the fact he is a jerk, for the most part.
The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) took place on September 12, 2010 at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Chelsea Handler, the first female in 16 years, hosted the event. Summer of ’42 has become public’s interest after Turner Classic Movies aired it. Directed by Robert Mulligan, the story is based on the memoirs of screenwriter Herman Raucher. The movie was played by Gary Grimes as Hermie, Jerry Houser as his best friend Oscy, Oliver Conant as their nerdy young friend Benjie, Jennifer O’Neill as Hermie’s mysterious love interest, and Katherine Allentuck and Christopher Norris as a pair of girls whom Hermie and Oscy attempt to seduce.
The film reveals back to a day that then 15-year-old “Hermie” (Gary Grimes) and his friends — jock Oscy (Jerry Houser) and introverted nerd Benjie (Oliver Conant) — spent playing on the beach. They spot a young soldier carrying his new bride (Jennifer O’Neill) into a house on the beach and are struck by her beauty, especially Hermie, who is unable to get her out of his mind. They continue spending afternoons on the beach where, in the midst of scantily-clad teenage girls, their thoughts invariably turn to sex. Hermie finds himself developing romantic interest in the bride, whose husband he spots leaving the island on a military transport boat one morning. Read more of Summer of ’42 on TCM
On the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s own blog, there’s one posting by one of its employees that suggested women are to blame for the wage gap solely because they take time off to have children has gotten a very public smack-down from a top Chamber executive.
The title of the posting is “Equality, Suffrage and a Fetish for Money,” which went up Wednesday, Brad Peck , ChamberPost editor and Senior Director of Communications accused Democratic women who compare the fight for fair pay to the fight for suffrage of having “Scrooge-like fetish for money.” This would, of course, be the same Chamber that regularly advocates for policies on everything from environmental regulation to, yes, equal pay to tort reform that would allow its members to increase profits.
In Peck’s part, which was intended to serve as a response to the DNC’s call to consider the Paycheck Fairness Act, Peck quoted liberally from FreedomWorks employee and conservative blogger Tabitha Hale and New York Times economics columnist David Leonhardt to “prove” that the entirety of the wage gap was due to women’s personal choices. Nicki Minaj and Drake seemingly announced on their Twitter pages that they are married. However, the marriage tweets apparently were nothing but a publicity stunt as reps for both rappers told E! Online that the stars are not married yet.
Minaj, on Friday, August 27, wrote, “U scurred? @drakkardnoir u ready to make the announcement or wha?” Drake later responded, “@nickiminaj Baby I am never scared. PROUD is more the word I would use.”
Taking the might-be prank further, Drake tweeted, “Please refer to @nickiminaj as Mrs. Aubrey Drake Graham and dont stare at her too long. She’s finally mine.” Agreeing Minaj posted her own announcement, “Yes, its true. Drake and I tied the knot.”
This wasn’t the first time Drake mentioned the idea of marrying Minaj. Read more of Drake & Nicki Minaj Marriage is a Publicity Stunt
