The title of the posting is “Equality, Suffrage and a Fetish for Money,” which went up Wednesday, Brad Peck , ChamberPost editor and Senior Director of Communications accused Democratic women who compare the fight for fair pay to the fight for suffrage of having “Scrooge-like fetish for money.” This would, of course, be the same Chamber that regularly advocates for policies on everything from environmental regulation to, yes, equal pay to tort reform that would allow its members to increase profits.
In Peck’s part, which was intended to serve as a response to the DNC’s call to consider the Paycheck Fairness Act, Peck quoted liberally from FreedomWorks employee and conservative blogger Tabitha Hale and New York Times economics columnist David Leonhardt to “prove” that the entirety of the wage gap was due to women’s personal choices. Thus, Peck opined, women that seek to erode the wage gap are just fetishizing money over family. In fact, Peck said, “those fighting for “full equality” are trying to actually legislate away choice” — the choice to make less money.

Peck Said “But as we all seek to fit our values into a dynamic 24/7 economy, let’s not overlook the obvious, immediate, power-of-the-individual solution: choosing the right place to work and choosing the right partner at home.”
For the reason that, of course, achieving the right work-life balance is a matter of just picking where one would like to work and just finding the right person to deal with the “life” stuff.
Undoubtedly, he felt that he was on fairly safe ground with this post. The Chamber unequivocally opposed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act; it has and continues to oppose the Paycheck Fairness Act that the DNC supports; and it has as one of its legislative priorities to “Oppose efforts to expand the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) by covering smaller businesses and making leave paid.” But between the brutal comments and what we can only assume were more than a couple of calls from women Chamber members, Peck ended up, it appears, with quite a surprise.

The Chamber’s COO David Chavern posted one of his very intermittent blog posts late last night at ChamberPost, disavowing Peck’s original post, and taking a swipe at his own employee in the process:

He said “There is a lot that I don’t like about the piece. It is simplistic and misguided. Even worse, I find it very, very old fashioned. “Women still face challenges at work because of their own work-life choices”, blah, blah, blah. It is an argument from the 1960′s.

Actually, the trouble is the argument that doesn’t explain a whole bunch of bad things. Why, for example, does the number of Fortune 500 women CEO’s and senior managers seem to have topped out? That is a truth that impacts a whole bunch of women who have made a wide variety of work-life choices. It certainly isn’t an outcome one would predict if all companies were really the “equal opportunity” (let alone “equal outcome”) workplaces that Brad implies that they are. The “glass ceiling” is real and simply blaming it on women’s work-life choices is ridiculous.

As we know, there are a lot of good evidence that women make great entrepreneurs. Shouldn’t that tell us something? Why is it that a large number of large, institutional environments don’t work for women — but ones they create for themselves do?
Moreover, the bottom line is that I found Brad’s post to be both wrong and wrong-headed. Luckily, as the COO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce my opinion on these matters counts a lot more than his does when it comes to Chamber policy and operations.”
More of a burn if Chavern intended to reverse any of the Chamber’s many policy stances that could help alleviate the very problems even Chavern sees in the American business world.

This wasn’t the first time Drake mentioned the idea of marrying Minaj. On his track “Miss Me” from his debut album “Thank Me Later”, Drake raps, “I love Nicki Minaj, I told her, I’d admit it; I hope one day we get married, just to say we f**king did it; And girl I’m f**king serious, I’m with it if you with it.”

In June, Drake told DJ Envy on MTV2′s “Sucker Free Countdown” that he had genuine feelings for Minaj. “Me and Nicki have a really playful relationship,” Drake told DJ Envy. “When I was on tour … I saw Nicki for the first time and, like, literally fell in love. Light beer and wine, as the other options, were not linked to such a risk.
Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Boston University Researchers tracked 82,869 women who had not initially been diagnosed with psoriasis for about 15 years, from 1991 through 2005. The participants, from the Nurses’ Health Study II, reported their own alcohol consumption and also, over the course of the study, reported whether a doctor had diagnosed psoriasis.
The researchers found that even relatively moderate amounts of beer seemed to increase the risk of psoriasis, with 2.3 drinks a week driving up the risk almost 80%.
And five beers a week more than doubled the risk of being diagnosed with this skin condition, as compared with teetotalers.

Dr. Abrar A. Qureshi, lead author of the article appearing in the December issue of Archives of Dermatology said “We can say that if a woman would like to consume alcohol and if she has a family history of psoriasis or known psoriasis in the past or some other reason she might be predisposed to psoriasis, the alcohol of choice probably should not be non-light beer.”
But director of research and medical programs at the National Psoriasis Foundation, Bruce Bebo, feels the findings “need more investigation to determine whether there’s a real connection or not.”
And on the question of drinking in general, he added, “from the point of view of the health-care provider, trying to limit alcohol consumption for lots of reasons is important. If this encourages people to limit alcohol consumption, I think that’s a positive outcome, but I don’t think the National Psoriasis Foundation or any physician group would make a recommendation.”
Previous studies have found an association between alcohol and psoriasis, although the reasons for this link were not clear.
Bebo said “There is evidence that alcohol consumption can affect immune responses and psoriasis is an autoimmune disease. There’s also some evidence that it can affect the biology of (the skin cells known as) keratinocytes. Then why would it be nonlight beer, why not wine or other alcohol? Maybe there’s something in wine that … might reverse the effect.”

Qureshi, who is an assistant professor of dermatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, said “When we looked up the components of different alcoholic beverages, one thing that stood out for nonlight beer was the amount of protein, gluten in particular. When we stumbled on this, we realized that there have been reports in the past that ingested gluten was associated not just with psoriasis worsening but other autoimmune diseases, such as celiac disease.”

A further study in the same issue of journal found that psoriasis carries a heavy mental health burden, with people who have the disease suffering higher rates of depression, anxiety and even suicidality.
The link was more pronounced in men, according to the researchers from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
A third study in the journal reported that treating psoriasis with narrow-band UV-B light rays may increase vitamin D levels in patients and help reduce the burden of the disease.
But the Irish authors, who reported various financial ties with pharmaceutical companies, don’t believe that the higher vitamin D levels actually were responsible for the psoriasis clearing.

The study also found that women with low folate levels fared worse than men. Women in the bottom third subgroup with a folate deficiency more than doubled their risk for depression, when compared to those in the highest third.

“Folate is also important in women who are trying to start a family” Said Dr. Laura Corio, AOL women’s health expert.

She added to AOL Health “Women in their reproductive years need at least one milligram of folate in their system before they try to conceive to decrease their incidence of neural tube defects in their fetus.”

My old self would have judged this time saying something to myself like ?What is wrong with me? I am feeling so unmotivated.? Not this time. Oh no! I am sooooaking it in!

What is so great is that the weather in Wisconsin is totally working with me. This is what I love about nature. If we go along with its messages, we feel even better. Wisconsin is getting clobbered with ridiculous amounts of snow. People are complaining about it left and right, but not me. The weather gives me all the more reason to rest, relax and unwind. I am just loving my bed right now, as I treasure waking up around 6 rather than around 4:30 or 5 when I was in a more motivated state. I just lay in bed thinking about how good the mattress feels on my body, my pillow and my warm, cozy blankets. I just feel so content and nurtured by allowing myself to enjoy this time.

I feel that I am able to really take this time in and cherish it for two reasons. One is that I know this time will pass. There is no need to judge myself as being lazy or worry that I will never be motivated again. It simply won?t happen. My body?s callings are recognizable to me now. I know when it needs rest and why. It is through this resting time that I will be able to swing my crazy long days with greater ease.

The other reason is that there is something so sweet about this time. I feel like I am really soaking in life. Sure, it is neat that I can get so much accomplished during my motivated states but there is also something so wonderful about cherishing the big and small aspects of our days. When I am in this more rested and slowed down state, I really am able to take in the beauty, gifts, love and abundance I am surrounded with.

Another interesting aspect of having this time is that I am having some sort of love affair with my body. I don?t mean this in any weird way. What I mean is that I feel even more conscious than ever how beautiful, amazing and powerful by body is. This is not about what it looks like on the outside but more about my body?s ability to function and do such amazing things like breathe, walk, run, kneel, heal, swim, create, and love. Simply stated, I am in awe of me from the inside out and not just me but everyone!. So as strange as it may sound, I have also been taking this time to enjoy all that my body can do. I praise my body for all its physical abilities, cherish my largest organ ? my skin with long baths and yummy lotions and look to nurture my body with healthy foods and apologize to it when I forget to.

What this innocent love affair with myself and my slowed down life has given is a greater sweetness. I feel so connected to myself, God and life that I can?t help myself but share this love with others. For example, my husband is getting phone calls just to tell him how handsome I think he is, besides being the best spouse and father.

Is it paradoxical that through loving ourselves that we are able to give more love out in the world? In a world that calls our self-care hurtful names such as selfish and lazy, you would think that to love ourselves is contradictory to loving others. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Although society will not congratulate you on your success of loving yourself, you will.

She saw me struggling to understand how I could be invited over to a sleepover with girls one weekend, and by the next weekend the same girls were mad at me. Up until adolescence, I got along with both girls and guys very well but felt closer to my female companions.
Adolescence changed my view of female friendships, and that lasted throughout my twenties. Nothing dramatic happened to me, it was just experience after experience in which I felt betrayed and hurt by girls. By the time I was in high school, I concluded that I got along better with guys. Even though the majority of my time was spent with girl friends, on a deep emotional level, I no longer trusted them.

Today, I cannot imagine life without women friends. Although my husband is an incredible person and friend, my female friendships fulfill me in a way that my husband could never do. Female friendships allow deep emotional comfort and understanding regarding issues that have less meaning to my husband. With my women friends, we also share a different sense of humor and silliness. Simply stated, they touch my feminine spirit in a way that allows me to be more womanly and true to myself in the world!
What caused this change in my relationships with women? Me. I had to take the time to sort through my own insecurities and masks that I had put up, and I had to recognize how they were not working for me. Sure, I could mask my insecurities, but that is just coping, and living by coping is not a fun way to live. By coping, I had lost who I really was, as I tried to please and manipulate myself into being someone who would be more likeable. Thus, in order for me to like me and know myself again, I had to put down the masks. Putting down my masks meant I also had to learn to be okay with the fact that not everyone was going to like the real me. I had to confront my fear that being myself may mean that I could be completely alone.

By putting down my own masks, I finally learned to like my true self. Learning how to like myself meant becoming less judgmental toward myself. This taught me not only compassion for myself but also toward others. Eliminating judgment from my life meant I could no longer tolerate others? criticalness either. I also naturally began to drift away from friends who were filled with drama. The drama was too toxic.
As I freed myself from the toxic people, there was more room for those people who were a good fit with my true self. The greater the freedom I felt in expressing myself, the more I found friends who were a great match for me. Today, my friends vary from me in race, religion, socio-economic class and age, but what is consistent is their sense of security in themselves that allows me to enjoy getting to know them and vice-versa.

When we like ourselves enough we will not allow toxic friends to invade our lives. It may sound over-the-top to call it an invasion, but it is. Our energy states are directly impacted from so-called friends who only want to suck the life force out of us because they come from a place of lack. Even if these energy zappers are old friends, we can learn to create healthy boundaries.
Knowing that you have the choice to determine who you will allow into your life and who you won?t is empowering and supports you to live life with greater ease and freedom. Above everything else ? trust your intuition to guide you. The connections that we make from our hearts will withstand time regardless if there is temporary separation. Trust in your inner wisdom to guide you to women who bring out your best and vice versa. It is with these friends that you can celebrate the true essence of womanhood!

For some it is worries about the economy. Can we continue to afford our house? How high will gas prices go up? Will we be able to afford a vacation next year? What about those struggling to put food on their table? Will I continue to have a job? Will I continue to make ends meet? On top of the economic struggles, people are concerned about the world?s welfare. War and our environment weigh heavy on many people?s minds. Then add to this stress any personal concerns we may be having regarding the physical or emotional health of ourselves and our loved ones and we can begin to sense the weight that many people are carrying.

I?ve been there myself having moments when I am concerned if my family will continue to be able to live in the same manner due to the greater challenges facing our society. My fear, however, lead me back to my truth. How? I was able to realize the message underneath the fear by knowing how to listen to my emotions.

The message I received was exciting news and news that I believe you will all want to hear. Times are changing, that is for sure, but these challenges are present to actually support us! We are still at the beginning curve of a shift in consciousness. Thankfully, many people like you have learned that we need to take better care of ourselves. We have listened and made changes such as taking better care of our health and changing our thoughts to ones that serve us rather than hinder us. We are learning to become more empowered to change our lives and that is exactly what we need.
If you have felt some of the stress in the last few months, you are not alone. You are actually sensitive to a greater shift in consciousness that needs to take place. One of the most significant is in reclaiming our emotional well-being.

Our world is shifting to bring in more feminine energy. What exactly do I mean by this? Regardless of gender, we all have both feminine and masculine energy. To put it succinctly, female energy is more creative and intuitive, masculine energy more rational and driven. Neither energy is ?better? than the other. In fact, we need both in order to live in balance. However, there has been an overemphasis on the masculine energy and our world needs to rebalance.

Now you need to ask yourself: do you want to be ahead of the curve or behind the curve? For those of you who want to be ahead of the curve, I may be asking you to take a leap of faith in trusting me that our emotions are actually a good thing and something we need to work with rather than dismiss. A lot of feelings, especially fear, are coming up right now for a lot of people in order to teach us all that we need to learn to go within ourselves.

I know a lot of you are saying ?what the heck is going within ourselves Michelle?? Well, I am glad you asked. As I mention in my book, Emotional Abundance: Become Empowered, we all have external fears. External fears are about conditions that we cannot exactly control (although we may try) and they can leave us feeling anxious and worried. All the fears mentioned in the first paragraph of this newsletter are external fears.
The gift of these external fears is to teach us that, indeed, we cannot control them. We have little control to whether they will impact us directly or not. The lesson for us to take from these fears is a big one. These conditions actually help us to learn that we need to reconnect with our all-knowing truth, which is our true essence.

Our true essence knows that our needs will always be met. Our true essence is intuitive, wise, and creative. Our true essence can come up with solutions that the rational mind cannot. In order to connect with our true essence we all need to learn more feminine skills of tuning in to ourselves and listening.
The good news is that we have the perfect equipment that allows us to tune in ? our emotions. Our emotions are there to support us to let us know what experiences and people support us to be in balance and those that don?t. The more we are in balance, the more we are able to connect with our inner wisdom that can guide us through any challenge.

Times are a changing that is true. But my hope is that you can be one of the fortunate ones that adapts to change rather than fights it. The feminine energy is demanding that we relook at how we approach life, especially our emotional well-being. Too many people are struggling with too much stress and worry due to a misunderstanding regarding our feelings and fears. Our current understanding regarding our emotions comes from a masculine, rational viewpoint that cannot comprehend the intuitive nature of the feminine spirit of our emotions. Whether we are men or women, the time has come for all of us to gain this true understanding regarding our emotional well-being, which will lead us to confidently and compassionately lead our lives.

Salt, a rogue CIA agent who is trying to clear her name. For Salt, Angelina will don several different exotic costumes and wigs, similar to what the CIA agent character Sydney Bristow did in the hit ABC series Alias. So is Agent Salt a traitor or not? That’s what the audience will try to find out. Salt, which shoots in Washington and New York City, opens in 2010.
“She’s a character you never know,” says Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who also produced Transformers and the upcoming G.I. Joe. “People who think they know the real her may or may not. Those who think they can tell whether she’s in a disguise also may or may not.

Jolie has had incredible box-office success in action movies such as the Lara Croft series (2001 & 2003), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) and Wanted (2008). Salt co-stars Liev Schreiber as her ally in the CIA’s Russia office and Chiwetel Ejiofor as a counterintelligence officer who tries to take her down.
Phillip Noyce is directing Salt, which he says will be “a reality-based spy movie with action set pieces as thrilling as the most crowd-pleasing movies of this genre.”

Comparisons are inevitable. Salt recalls TV’s Alias, with its female action hero donning multiple disguises. It also will be measured against the current spy-movie trendsetters: the Daniel Craig reboot of James Bond and Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne films.
Di Bonaventura says Salt is different because the character is trying to hide truths about herself rather than discover them. “The question of Jason Bourne is ‘Who am I?’ ” he says. “The question of Salt is, ‘We know everything about her, but do we?’ (Her pursuers) have a ton of information to act on, but that’s where they begin to question what is real and what isn’t.”

The lighter one definitely gives Angie a softer, gentler appearance, while the other brings with it a certain mystery and danger, which only makes sense given that her character’s true identity is questioned throughout the film.
But what do you think? Is there one ‘do you prefer over the other, or is choosing just too tough because, even without hair, one of the most beautiful people on the planet would still look fabulous?
